Risk mitigation and elimination are essential to preserving human lives and wealth, requiring an integrated approach involving fuel depletion, fire extinction, and engineering practices to enhance protection against wildfires.
Safe Language and Inclusive Environment in the Social Services

A group of social work students will develop a report with an overview and specific recommendations for your human services employees regarding using safe language and create a friendly and inclusive environment. Safe language involves discarding outdated and stereotypical or prejudicial language when working with clients with mental health issues or minority groups. Inclusive environment involves celebration of differences, increasing understanding of how privilege impacts our individual, institutional and structural systems, and the advocacy and support for those who do not hold power and privilege. The goal is to help employees become more aware of labels and outdated language and privileges, enhance communication skills, and help move toward a safe language and inclusive climate. An example of the person-first safe language approach is saying “a person with schizophrenia” instead of “a schizophrenic.”

The underlying message of the course is that to effectively lead and manage a modern police organization, a police executive needs four things:The skills to lead the organization towards desired goals; The ability to manage the performance of those within the organization; The ability to effectively build positive relationships with the community; The ability to use data to inform the decision-making process and messaging of organizational decisions.

Accelerate to Industry (A2i)™ is an industry workforce readiness program for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers developed by the NC State University Graduate School. The program provides students with knowledge, skills, and abilities that establish long-term professional success.Students from various UND graduate programs, both masters and PhD, are available for team or individual project-based opportunities, and we are open to both paid and unpaid opportunities.
Public Health Project
Public Health Evaluation class. Bring in doctoral students from the University of North Dakota’s Public Health Program, Evaluation class. Students’ knowledge covers various Public Health areas, with community understanding at the local, state and tribal levels with special curriculum emphasis on indigenous populations. Students will help assist in various roles within your organization pertaining to development of and evaluation plan throughout the academic semester from February 2021 to May 2021. This can be extended per agreement with student and UND. The opportunity for collaboration is available to any agency or organization that provides a public health service with Public Health or within Health Service Administration.
Virtual Interns in Chemistry
Virtual Internship Opportunity Bring on one or more students from the University of North Dakota in Chemistry to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the internship period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students are available for 50-150 hours of placement from May 15 to August 15 2021. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.
Criminal Justice Studies Internship
In order to qualify as an appropriate placement for a student, the industry partner must be able to outline the duties/project for which the student is responsible. Such duties should include components of decision making and responsibility for specific tasks and should have direct relevance to the principal purposes of the organization. Mere opportunity to observe the activities of the agency, although having value, does not qualify as an appropriate internship experience.
Social Work Field Practicum
Bring on one or more students from The University of North Dakota in the Social Work Department to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the internship period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students are available for 200-250 hours of unpaid, for credit, placement from March 1 to May 14, 2021, . Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.We are looking for placement sites where students can apply in practice the concepts and theories learned in the classroom. The students have learned in the classroom about many aspects of generalist social work practice, including interpersonal skills, counseling, group facilitation, and case management. Please note that all of our students will have a background check completed.
