Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University of North Dakota to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students will be working in community sites with preceptors to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world experience in the nutrition sector. Students are required to complete competencies (see below) and setting personal goals to accomplished throughout the semester. Students will have developed soft skills desirable for various workforces.

Deliverables

Students will have spent a semester with various nutrition professionals in various community sites putting their classroom knowledge to work in a real-world opportunity. This course is the last part of the human nutrition degree that will allow students to explore their interests in the nutrition sector. Additionally, students will be writing reflection papers as well as providing a presentation at the end of the semester to highlight their skills, observations, and competencies. This, along with work in community sites will give students opportunities to put together presentations as well as practice public speaking for various audiences ranging from individuals of varying socioeconomic statues to professional environments.

Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and practice the skills necessary to function as a human nutritionist.
  • Participate in the varied role of the human nutritionist in the community.
  • Communicate evidenced-based nutrition information effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Assist clientele with healthy food and lifestyle choices
  • Participate in the activities of a community agency that has a health/nutrition component.
  • Plan, perform and evaluate projects/activities that show consideration for the influence of socioeconomic, cultural, and psychological factors on food and nutrition behavior.
  • Become aware of the political/legislative impact on agencies/institutions that provide nutrition care.
  • Employ principles of nutrition practice to provide care for healthy individuals, groups or communities.
  • Work independently and practice accountability to a supervisor and team within the agency.
  • Demonstrate responsibility as an employee in the selected agency
  • Utilize effective time management skills
