In this course, students will identify and examine current trends and issues as they pertain to hiring/retaining/motivating a team or key individuals in this context.Students in teams of five (each with a team lead) from University Canada West will develop an action plan that addresses a leadership or management challenge currently faced by your organization.Based on the information you provide, consultant teams will deliver an action plan that accounts for your unique circumstances and outlines a path to a more engaged and productive team.

Graduate Internship (MBA)

Virtual Internship Opportunity for MBA students: Bring on one or more students from the Vancouver-based University of Canada West (UCW) in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more business projects of your choosing over the internship period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students are available from April to July. After identifying a challenge, students propose ways to solve it and build a strategic plan. They present a video story outlining their activities, their contribution to the organization, analysis of the internship experience, and their recommendations for a solution to the challenge.Due to COVID-19 restrictions, virtual student placements are preferred. In-person student placements will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on local COVID-19 restrictions.

The teams will apply their international and entrepreneurial knowledge, as MBA students with critical analyses/strategies/design skills to develop strategic management ideas in your organization. The teams will complete an analysis and provide strategic recommendations, practical options, and design an action plan appropriate to your business situation, with your direction.As a participating organization, you will provide a specific question, business issue/ challenge, or opportunity that will be the focus of the student team review. Time will need to be provided for Q&A by students between April 11 and Jun 11, 2022. You will also need to kickoff your project request on Wed. April 13, 2022, in each of the 3 sections at 11 AM, 1:30 P, and 6 PM PT with a 30 - 45 minute overview and Q&A session. In Week 6 (May 16-18 - To be scheduled) a Midterm review will be presented to you by the students. The Final review will be presented between June 13 and June 22, 2022 (To be scheduled).

This semester students work on a detailed Integrated marketing communications (IMC) plan. They will critically analyze the current environment, the company's strengths and weaknesses and a section on how to improve its promotional stance or solve a current marketing communication challenge. They will try to develop a Marketing promotional Plan to drive online traffic, customer leads and/or online sales. The students will use marketing research (secondary), strategy, digital promotional tools and marketing best practices to create a report and presentation. They will work in groups of 4 to 5 students, but there is a chance to keep groups flexible.
MBA Capstone Project
These students come from various countries with several years work experience in different fields. From architecture and engineering to hotel and hospitality management, finance and insurance, international marketing and trade and HR. The projects will be completed April through June 2024

Strategic Management focuses on strategy formulation and its implementation from a top managementperspective. An in-depth understanding of business, corporate, and network-level strategies helps studentscreate an innovative approach that connects conventional business practices with the contemporarybusiness world. The BUSI 660, a capstone project-based course, is designed for students in the final term of their MBA program. The course has a strong analytical, applied, and experiential orientation. Students work in groups of 4-5 to focus on a challenge/opportunity for the business. The students' process - and ultimate deliverable will include a current analysis of the business, problem or opportunity identification, research (as applicable), recommended solutions/strategy with implementation plan, budget and finally, risk identification and mitigation strategies (again, as applicable). The project can be for a Canadian business of any size, however enterprises run by solo-preneurs would probably not provide the necessary scope.
