Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

We would like our existing website to be revamped/redesigned for our organization with a professional eye to look more modern, accessibility-compliant, utilize more traffic, marketable, ensure it has an effective user experience for people with disabilities, and help integrate e-commerce via online courses.

Student/s should be prepared to:

  • Create a design proposal including mockups for our company's review.
  • Demontrate the advanced knowledge and skills in website accessibility compliance based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, 2.1 (WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Work on SEO aspects of the website, to help insure the highest interactivity.
  • Provide training on updating and maintaining the site.

NOTE: Current images and videos will be provided. Also, the student will be given strict access to Adobe Stock to include additional images which will complement the website.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Redesign/revamp our website, with our assistance in providing content and copy, using a different Wordpress theme (i.e., confirmed).

  • Identifying key areas of our current website and what areas of focus that would return the best results in a redesign.
  • Evaluating our website from a technical and usability standpoint and will give us a brief overview about its current state.
  • Pitch to us design ideas that will form the website redesign. These should include branding colours and schemes, images and content into the design.
  • Demonstrate proven advanced knowledge and skills of WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Efficient knowledge and use of various assistive tools/technology.
  • Ensure it can be viewed on all browsers, a tablet, and be mobile-friendly (i.e., responsive design).
  • Conduct accessibility testing to ensure quality assurance.
  • Creating mock-ups of each webpage for approval.
  • E-commerce…setup payment page. (i.e., How to Move and Charge for Course Online)
  • Fixing any functionality issues.
  • Making backup files of the site.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with the employer for mentorship and guidance throughout the project. Schedule to be confirmed between the employer and student(s).

Occasional progress meetings will take place where adjustments to the students' tasks and duties can be made as needed.

Preference to connect and follow-up video conference (i.e., Zoom).

Note: A screen reader may be shared in order to conduct accessibility testing / quality assurance (i.e., JAWS).

FYI: Resources have been attached to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA (i.e., checklist, cheat sheet, WordPress Accessibility plug-ins, list of accessibility testing tools, links to official sites containing the legislations, etc.).
