Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our company is looking to revamp and update our brand book.

This may involve:

  • Creating a new branding guide that is new, but still aligned with our existing branding including fonts, colors, logo usage and imagery to be used.
  • Meeting with the project manager to evaluate the choices made for the branding book to ensure it is aligned with company branding goals, and making any necessary revisions.
  • Designing and presenting thumbnails for design assets (banner ad, illustration, infographic, etc) based on the branding guide to be included in a proposal and presented to the project manager.
  • Executing the full designs for each branding asset using Canva, based on the approved thumbnails.
  • Creating multiple thumbnails with different color schemes based on the colors in the branding guide.
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities (this is basically a retelling of the steps above):

  • Created a new branding guide to dictate company usage of font, color, and imagery.
  • Met with the project manager to discuss the branding guide, and completed any changes required.
  • Presented a proposal of brand asset design thumbnails to the project manager to be approved for final designs.
  • Created the final designs for each brand assets using Canva.

Bonus steps would include:

  • Including multiple thumbnails with different color schemes based on the colors in the branding guide.

Final deliverables should include

  • A new branding book for our company with information about how our brand should be communicated in terms of fonts, colors, logo usage, and images.
  • A set of graphic design assets based on the branding book and design proposal.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Are there any themes or colors that should be introduced?
  • What images, quotes, or taglines should be included in each design asset?
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Digital marketing and content creation.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva
  • Graphic design.

Nice to haves for students include

  • Experience with advanced graphic design tools such as Adobe Illustrator.

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about this above as the project goes along.

About the company

What is Chrisoda?
Chrisoda is the evolution of pop, delivering what today’s health conscious consumer is looking for:
lower sugar
clean, simple recognizable ingredients
functionality (apple cider vinegar)
exceptional taste

Chrisoda is available in 3 flavours: pear ginger, rhubarb and vanilla, as well as raspberry.

What makes it taste so great?
We take cold pressed fruit juice, a splash of organic apple cider vinegar, and a little organic cane sugar. That cold ferments for a couple of weeks. Then we add sparkling water. The result is a drink with a deep, delicious, sweet and sour flavour profile you can feel good about chugging.

Why Did We Make it?
Chrisoda is a product from Manning Canning, founded by husband and wife team Christine Manning and James Houston, Toronto makers of jams, jellies and pickles. We were always experimenting with fruits, vegetables and vinegars in various forms.

When James quit drinking a decade ago, he complained constantly about how few non alcoholic options there were. There is only so much Perrier and Diet Coke you can drink, and he just wasn’t into turmeric elixirs.

So Christine started making a version of shrub with fruit juices and vinegars. It was so popular at shows and markets that customers asked for a ready to drink version, and Chrisoda was born!

Why is it called Chrisoda?
We went through several names for this product, all of which had IP issues (which is a whole other story) but in the early days when we were just making it for ourselves, James always called it Chrisoda (as in “babe, can you make me a Chrisoda?”). When it came time for branding and packaging, both the agency and Christine said that it would NEVER be called Chrisoda. But after many rounds with the lawyers and trademark people for all the other names, Chrisoda won the day!
