Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

VIBE Arts is a charity that provides free arts education programming and creative mentorship to equity-deserving groups across Ontario. The main goal for the project is to build a new webpage to promote and highlight the impact and reach of VIBE Arts' mentorship programming. This will involve creating a visually appealing and informative webpage that effectively communicates the organization's mentorship initiatives and their positive outcomes.

In addition to the development of a webpage, we would like to enlist learners to conduct an accessibility audit of our website.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Project Activities:

Webpage Development

  • Researching and gathering information about VIBE Arts' mentorship programming, including success stories, testimonials, and program details
  • Designing and developing the webpage layout, ensuring it is user-friendly and visually engaging
  • Creating content for the webpage, including text, images, and multimedia elements to effectively showcase the impact and reach of the mentorship programming
  • Implementing features that allow visitors to easily navigate the webpage and access relevant information about the mentorship initiatives
  • Testing the webpage for functionality and responsiveness across different devices and browsers
  • Making any necessary revisions based on feedback and finalizing the webpage for launch

Website Accessibility Audit:

  • Conducting background research on disabilities and methods of evaluating accessibility for web
  • Conducting accessibility tests across the website
  • Analyzing and reporting the metrics / results of the tests

Final deliverables:

  • A fully functional and visually appealing webpage that effectively promotes and highlights VIBE Arts' mentorship programming
  • All source materials, including content, images, and multimedia elements used in the webpage
  • Documentation outlining the design process, features, and functionality of the webpage
  • Recommendations of accessibility improvements for our website

By the end of the project, learners should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of web development and effective UX/UI
  • Understanding of different disabilities and factors that affect a website’s accessibility
  • Understanding of our accessibility testing procedure
  • Analysis of accessibility testing results
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions about the following:

  • Our organization, mission and programming
  • Our current websites content management system and brand guidelines
  • Our current understanding of our website’s accessibility features
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Online meeting platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Skype
  • UI / UX design principles
  • Website Development

Nice to haves for students include:

  • Knowledge of website audits and accessibility principles

Learners can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed above. They will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.
