What is the main goal of the project?

The goal is to understand how key veterinarian competitors address consumer needs and wants in Canada and what makes key brands appealing to different consumers.

What tasks will students need to complete to achieve the project goal?

  • With the help and guidance of Senior leadership research and develop market analysis of the key major competitors in Ontario
  • Identify how each of your key competitors differentiate the features of their offerings to appeal to consumer needs and how they may satisfy the needs of individual segments:
  • An analysis of advertisements, website information and any promotional materials that support the brands and their identity
  • An overview of how each brand uses consumer concepts
  • Recommendations on ways to effectively appeal to consumers and/or gain competitive advantage against your competitors via your understanding of consumer-based insights

Students must provide raw, editable files at the end of the project.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

We will:

  • Ensure a senior leader is available to review, collaborate, revise and provide timely guidance and feedback by video, phone & email
  • When possible senior leaders are willing to travel for a face-to-face meeting
  • Set up regular check-in sessions to provide feedback
  • Share the findings of our research as the starting point for business copy and content creation
  • Provide stock images consistent with our brand - but are open to recommendations
  • Mentor students - Our founders are both educators, experienced business founders and university-level mentors
  • Be active participants and involved in your program activation plan
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?
  • Understand various consumer-facing communications of key competitors and what is particularly effective :
  • social media analysis in particular means of growing a community and customers organically and through WOM
  • consumer behaviour analysis
  • marketing & advertising what is effective in the space and where is there opportunity to differentiate?
  • Ideally, basic content creation skills to run A/B testing (if appropriate)
About the company

PetNation is a veterinarian health platform that includes a virtual platform and 24/7 physical centres and provides subscription-based full-service care to members. Our vision is to ensure pets get the care they need when they need it saving hundreds of thousands of animals' lives.

Working with a multidisciplinary team of students we are creating a unique online and in-clinic experience for PetParents. The project goals are to identify pricing options for our new services.

We are seeking creative students to assist us to identify potential PetParent customers, and enhancing our understanding of pricing drivers, concerns and sensitivity We have already done some very innovative work that we can share to demonstrate the value of our unique approach.
