Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Finding Our Power Together, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization, aims to strengthen our capacity to secure funding through grants. Our goal is to identify potential grant opportunities and develop compelling grant applications to support our mission of preventing death by suicide and empowering Indigenous youth and communities.

This project will involve:

  • Comprehensive research to identify grant opportunities that align with our organization's objectives and programs.
  • Analyzing grant requirements and guidelines to understand funder priorities and criteria.
  • Developing and writing grant proposals, including narratives and budgets, that effectively communicate the impact and necessity of our work.
  • Crafting tailored follow-up and reporting strategies for granted funds.

Bonus steps in the project could include:

  • Evaluating and refining grant-writing strategies based on feedback from funders or mentors.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • A thorough understanding of grant opportunities relevant to our mission and programs.
  • Insight into the grant application process, including interpreting guidelines and requirements.
  • Developed grant proposals that are ready for submission, including narrative and financial components.
  • Strategies for effective follow-up and reporting on granted funds.

Bonus tasks could include:

  • Refinement of proposals and strategies based on external feedback.

Final deliverables should include:

  • A detailed report outlining potential grant opportunities and strategies for application.
  • Completed grant proposal(s) ready for submission.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our mission and vision statement
  • Our community projects and previous grant applications
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Formal grant writing

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.
