Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

What Works Consultants is a management consulting firm that helps service focused companies in the hospitality, healthcare, software, and professional services industries with continuous improvement and performance enablement initiatives. The firm has been in business since 2009 and in full-time operation since 2016.

Seeking students and professors who will sign an NDA as our consultants do to protect our clients' information and confidentiality.

As our organization grows, it is important to stay up to date with the industry’s evolving human resources practices to manage our employees effectively. The firm is now ready to scale and seeks students to help us on our external (client supporting) projects.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

In this project, students will:

  • If local to a project go on site with a WWC consultant to take notes and learn about management consulting and training practices
  • Work on research projects: Primary and secondary data, survey creation, use of Qualtrics, creating results presentations
  • Taking consultant recommendations and enhancing presentations with current academic practices, asking questions and gaining knowledge from our consultants
  • Reviewing or compiling software requirements of clients and doing demos to complete requirements grids
  • Writing training materials, suggesting curriculum or training plans
  • Speaking to current employees and management to determine the needs and challenges of our organization for a performance management system.
  • Researching performance management options that may suit the needs of our team, focusing on measurability and reliability.
  • Establishing a rollout plan that outlines how our organization will transition to using a new performance management system.

These are just a few examples. I am open to hear about project requirements to see if our firm can offer you a real world learning experience.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. Learners will work directly with the Chief Management Consultant and at least one other senior member of the WWC consulting team.

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Performance management methods such as the comparative approach, ranking, forced distribution, paired comparison, and other common industry methods.
  • Verbal and written communication.
  • Research and analysis skills
  • GSuite
  • Other systems include: Kajabi, Qualtrics, Zapier, Mailchimp, Hubstaff, Hubstaff Tasks (Would create one account for your university if a paid intern), Canva. Other systems in the tech stack will be explained when you work with us, relevant to the job.

Student should also have a passion for people operation, empathetic leadership, and the human element of organizations.

We communicate on Slack if your university has an account.

About the company

What Works Consultants is a management consulting firm with a different kind of philosophy. We play for the long haul, not the short engagement. Because we believe business problems should never be faced alone, we help executives conduct the research they need to make important business decisions. But we don't stop there. We take a people approach to business by helping organizations with empathetic change management, creating the process, internal communications, and people operations strategies they need to succeed long-term. Our core projects include OKR/KPI, success metrics, performance enablement, employee engagement, and internal communications projects to drive organizational transformation. We are smart consultants who love people and the ripple effect our work has on the world.
