Details
  • To develop a data management solution that enables the efficient organization, tagging, and retrieval of company profiles and research data (Word, PDF, Excel, JPG, GIF, and PNG formats).
  • To create an indexing system that allows searching by specific attributes like location, project details, technology, and/or industry (e.g. for mining companies, by commodity and location).
  • To streamline the report generation process for public companies in mining, technology, and business sectors, resulting in faster and more accurate reporting.

Deliverables

Sprint 1: Data Exploration, Data Preparation, and Modeling

  • Task 1: Understand the current data storage formats (Word documents, PDFs, Excel spreadsheets, and images (GIF, JPG, or PNG)) and evaluate how they are used in report writing.
  • Task 2: Explore and clean the datasets provided, including financial models, industry information, and company descriptions.
  • Task 3: Develop a system to tag company profiles based on specific attributes (e.g., location, commodities, project details).
  • Deliverable: A prototype tagging and indexing system with the ability to retrieve profiles based on search criteria.

Sprint 2: Data Integration and System Design

  • Task 1: Design a software solution to integrate and store different file formats (Word, PDF, Excel, images).
  • Task 2: Implement search and filtering functionality to allow for easy retrieval of company profiles and related data.
  • Task 3: Set up basic integration between existing tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and the new data management solution.
  • Deliverable: A system capable of storing, tagging, and retrieving data from multiple sources and formats.

Sprint 3: Report Generation and Efficiency Improvements

  • Task 1: Develop an automated process for generating company research reports based on retrieved data.
  • Task 2: Test and refine the system to ensure reports can be generated faster and more efficiently than the current process.
  • Deliverable: A functional prototype that streamlines the report generation process, cutting down on time spent manually retrieving and organizing data.

Final Project Report and Presentation

  • Task 1: Summarize key findings, solution architecture, and efficiency improvements.
  • Task 2: Present a final report detailing the system's impact on Chris Thompson's workflow and overall research process.
  • Deliverable: A final report and presentation with recommendations for future deployment and scaling.
