Details

The goal of this project is to enhance electric vehicle (EV) functionality by integrating a system that reduces charge time and frequency while capturing propulsion energy through an electric turbine.

This project is in the exploratory stages. It is highly theoretical, aiming to explore the feasibility of using an electric turbine in the described manner. Theoretical research is required to validate the concept.

Deliverables

To achieve the project goal, students will need to complete the following tasks:

Conceptual Design:

  • Turbine Design: Design a small-scale vertical turbine to be integrated into the vehicle's front grill. This turbine should spin and create electric current while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Efficiency Analysis: Ensure that the turbine design does not add significant drag to the vehicle, as this would decrease overall efficiency. The design must result in a net increase in battery life and not consume more power than it generates.

Material Selection:

  • Identify lightweight and sustainable materials available on the open market that are cost-effective and suitable for real-world applications.

Theoretical Research:

  • Conduct extensive theoretical research to explore the feasibility of the turbine-based energy generation system.
  • Investigate current technologies and materials that could be adapted or innovated upon for this project.

Design and Simulation:

  • Create either a digital plan or a physical model of the proposed design.
  • Develop a digital twin to simulate the design in a virtual environment.
  • Conduct digital simulations to test and refine the design, ensuring it meets efficiency and sustainability criteria.

Documentation:

  • Prepare detailed documentation of the design process, theoretical research, and simulation results.

Outcomes:

  • The ideal outcome would be a viable design for an electric vehicle that incorporates a turbine to generate continuous current, extending battery life and reducing charge frequency.
  • The project could result in a digital model, a physical prototype, or a combination of both, depending on the chosen approach and available resources.

Mentorship

We will support the students by being available for regular meetings and to answer any questions and provide feedback on the project as needed.
