Details

SafetyHand is building an AI-powered safety assistant focused on generating dynamic Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) through natural language input (text and voice). This project invites an Occupational Health and Safety student to help ensure the AI-generated JSAs are compliant, relevant, and helpful in real-world jobsite settings.

Students will:

  • Research common jobsite tasks, hazards, and controls
  • Review relevant OHS regulations and best practices
  • Help design and test structured prompts to improve JSA quality
  • Provide insight into how AI-generated forms can align with field needs

Deliverables

What tasks will students need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of how Job Safety Analyses are used in the field
  • Knowledge of regional safety regulations and task-specific requirements
  • Research and documentation of 10–15 job tasks with hazards/controls
  • Design and testing of AI prompts for use with GPT models (we’ll provide tools)
  • Recommendations on improving clarity, compliance, and usability of AI output
  • Optional: Collect feedback from real users or test prompts in ChatGPT

Final Deliverables Should Include:

A structured safety task library (e.g., spreadsheet)

5–10 tested AI prompts with input/output examples

Summary of applicable regulatory standards (OHS/CSA)

A short written report with findings, suggested improvements, and next steps

SafetyHand is a safety technology company focused on delivering intelligent solutions that streamline and enhance workplace safety processes. Our platform leverages artificial intelligence to help teams generate accurate, task-specific safety documentation—starting with dynamic Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)—and is evolving to support a broader suite of real-time safety tools.

Built for high-risk industries such as construction, energy, and field services, SafetyHand is especially focused on supporting small and mid-sized businesses in the skilled trades, where safety responsibilities often fall on crew leads or supervisors. We aim to simplify compliance, reduce paperwork, and empower tradespeople with smarter, faster safety support—making comprehensive safety practices more accessible, whether in the office, field or on the move.
