Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

We want to better understand 3 core things:

1) Who are our users and what drives them to use our product?

2) Who are our main competitors and how do their product offerings compare to ours?

3) What are the complementary products that users use with our products?

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

We would like to collaborate with students to help us answer the aforementioned questions.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our company and products
  • Creating and conducting a customer survey
  • Identifying current and potential future competitors.
  • Identifying current and potential complementary products
  • Creating a matrix identifying features that are similar and different between companies.
  • Recommending how our company can differentiate itself through products/services and messaging.


Final deliverables should include

  • A customer profile report summarizing key findings from the customer survey
  • A recommendation presentation/report that highlights potential new features or products our company can offer to differentiate itself


How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our products and target market
  • Our known competitors
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Market research and competitive analysis
  • Communicating research findings

Nice to haves for students include

  • Knowledge of SWOT analyses

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.
