The Vermont Speech Language Hearing Association (VSHA) is committed to advancing the licensure of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) at the state level. This project aims to support the SLPA Liaison's objectives by conducting comprehensive outreach, research, and strategic planning. The project will involve gathering data on current licensure requirements in other states, identifying key stakeholders, and developing a strategic outreach plan to engage these stakeholders effectively. The team will also research best practices for SLPA licensure and compile a report that outlines potential pathways for implementation in Vermont. By aligning with the SLPA Liaison's goals, this initiative seeks to enhance the professional recognition and regulatory framework for SLPAs, ultimately contributing to improved speech-language services across the state.

Deliverables

The project will produce a detailed report summarizing research findings on SLPA licensure requirements and best practices from other states in order to inform . Additionally, the team will develop a strategic outreach plan targeting key stakeholders, including policymakers and educational institutions. A presentation will be prepared to communicate the findings and recommendations to the VSHA board, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic goals.

  • A comparative policy analysis of SLPA licensure in 3-5 states with similar demographics or legislation
  • Interviews or focus groups with SLPs and administrators about perceived needs and concerns
  • A public-facing infographic or white paper outlining the benefits of SLPA licensure
  • A digital outreach toolkit to share with stakeholders (e.g., Vermont legislators, school administrators)
  • Recommendations for using VSHA’s member portal to host SLPA licensure resources
