The goal of this project is to apply real-world market research and strategic prospecting skills to identify high-potential, values-aligned nonprofit clients for Advocate Fundraising—a specialized consultancy supporting fundraising growth across Canada.
Learners will engage in a full-cycle research and lead generation project that blends nonprofit sector analysis, decision-maker mapping, and ethical business development. Their work will directly impact Advocate Fundraising’s ability to expand its client base in a mission-driven, sustainable way.
Key activities include:
- Defining an ideal client profile based on real service delivery patterns
- Conducting deep research into the Canadian nonprofit landscape
- Gathering data on funding patterns, mission alignment, and executive leadership access
- Creating a practical and sortable lead tracker
- Proposing introductory outreach messages aligned with ethical sales principles
- Presenting findings and top leads in a professional summary report
By the end of the project, learners will produce:
1.Client Profile & Criteria Document
- A clear 1-page breakdown of Advocate Fundraising’s ideal client attributes
- Criteria based on organization type, size, sector, region, and fundraising activity
2.Lead Prospecting Spreadsheet
- A comprehensive list of 50–100 nonprofit organizations
- Fields include: name, website, region, sector, estimated size, public funder history
3.Contact Identification Sheet
- Executive or senior-level contact information (email or LinkedIn) for each lead
- Notes on public grant/funding visibility
4.Prioritized Lead Tracker
- A Google Sheet with filtering options by sector, region, and alignment score
- Tagging system (e.g., mental health, youth, arts) for segmentation
5.Sample Outreach Messaging (Optional)
- 2–3 draft outreach messages or LinkedIn scripts based on values-fit and sector relevance
6.Executive Summary Report
- A 1–2 page summary outlining top leads and how they were selected
- Includes strategic recommendations and research insights
