advocacy poster design intelligence agency health literacy presentations mentorship psychology researchThe project aims to address the often-overlooked issue of coercive control in healthcare settings. Coercive control is a subtle yet damaging form of psychological and social abuse that significantly impacts health and well-being. Despite its seriousness, it is frequently absent from clinical conversations. The Feminine Intelligence Agency (FIA) has compiled extensive research on this topic, including survivor-informed language and best practices for support. The goal of this project is to translate this rich research base into an educational poster that can be displayed in healthcare environments. This poster will serve as a tool for both doctors and patients to recognize and understand the implications of coercive control. By doing so, the project seeks to enhance awareness and improve the quality of care provided to those affected by this form of abuse.
- Conduct a comprehensive review of existing educational posters or campaigns in healthcare settings:
- What makes them effective or not?
- How is sensitive information presented in a clinical setting?
- Analyze the power structures in healthcare settings (like hospitals and clinics) to identify:
- Who makes decisions about what gets displayed in offices?
- How can you build a social network or advocacy path to ensure these materials get real traction?
- Draft poster content and layout ideas—clear, concise, and accessible to both providers and patients.
- Develop a plan for integrating the poster into healthcare environments—who needs to approve it, how to get buy-in, and what cultural and practical factors must be considered.
- Spend time building relationships or identifying allies within the health system (like patient advocates, nurse managers, or health educators) who could champion the cause.
Our Role:
- Provide the research foundation—you’ll have solid data and survivor-informed language to work from, so you’re not starting from scratch.
- Create final graphics and poster design based on your draft content and layout once you’ve done the groundwork—ensuring it’s visually professional and ready for print.
- Offer ongoing feedback and mentorship as you navigate the healthcare system’s structures and finalize your implementation plan.
Deliverables:
- A research brief on best practices for educational posters and health literacy in clinical settings.
- A draft poster content and layout—clear messaging and visuals (we’ll finalize the design).
- A detailed implementation plan (2–3 pages) outlining how to get the poster into healthcare settings, including power structures, allies, and practical steps.
- A presentation to share your findings, proposed poster, and rollout strategy.
