The Art of the Interview: Engaging in Real-World Conversations

Roanoke College invites employers to collaborate with students enrolled in "The Art of the Interview," a course designed to develop essential interviewing skills and qualitative research techniques. Students will gain hands-on experience in crafting questions, conducting interviews, analyzing qualitative data, summarizing findings, and providing professional reports—all while applying ethical practices. By partnering with learners, employers can leverage fresh perspectives and creative insights that will benefit their projects. Employers are expected to maintain regular communication with students, provide guidance, and ensure that all relevant information is shared throughout the project. Additionally, employers should be virtually present during the final presentation to provide constructive feedback on the learners' work.

Learners in this program/experience will learn how health is related to all aspects of human life and how societies serve the health care needs of people. The course of study help learners find a niche in the health field that matches their own personal passions. This is a capstone course for the public health studies major that includes an in-depth review and analysis of major themes within public health studies.

Advanced Accounting for Non-Profit Organizations

Learners will work on one main project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Learners in this program/experience will learn accounting for mergers and acquisitions – often referred to as consolidation accounting. The remaining 8 weeks covers a variety of topics including international accounting, partnerships, state and local governments, and nonprofit entities. Learners will focus on non-profit organizations for this specific project.
Exploring the Mental Health Crisis

Learners will work on one main project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, one in five people suffer from some type of mental illness in the United States. The number of people being diagnosed has significantly increased in the last several years. Two categories are used to describe mental illness: any mental illness (AMI) and serious mental illness (SMI) Young adults aged 18-25 years have the highest prevalence of AMI and SMI compared to adults aged 26 or older these numbers are expected to continue to increase. Why are we seeing this increase and what can be done? Learners in this program/experience, through reading, research, writing and presenting, will work independently and in groups to answer this question and propose potential solutions to the mental health crisis.
