Our 4th year nursing students take their senior nursing leadership course in either their last or second last term before graduation. Consumer Behavior is a 3rd year undergraduate marketing course at the University of Alberta's School of Business, one of the top 5 business schools in Canada.Students will each work 15–25 hours throughout the winter semester, in groups of 4–5, on an applied consumer behavior project, guided by your organizational goals and priorities. This course is online due to COVID-19, so projects will be completed and delivered remotely.Students have already taken introduction to marketing; this course focuses on the deeper psychological factors influencing consumer behavior, and how those factors are used by marketers. Course topics include: Attention and Perception Needs and Motivation Judgment and Decision Making Attitudes and Persuasion Social InfluenceChoice Architecture / NudgesWord-of-Mouth / How Things SpreadProjects involving any (or all) of these topics are welcome. Projects may also include secondary research, but NOT primary research (i.e., interviews, focus groups).

Capstone projects are experiential learning that mutually benefit students and organizations.Projects are required to be strategic in nature, and should span across multiple functional areas (strategy, finance, operations, marketing, human relations, entrepreneurship, innovation etc.). They are completed in a 3-month time frame and are sufficient in scope to provide an average of 10hrs/week commitment from a 3-5 person student team.Proposals are selected by the students and once finalized, student teams manage the project and communications with oversight from the professor. Professional Practicum Program
Students completing their Bachelor of Kinesiology, Bachelor of Science Kinesiology, or Bachelor of Arts, Recreation, Sport, and Tourism are all required to complete a practicum course. Our programs offer a variety of majors or specializations ranging from health promotion to adapted physical activity, to sports administration, recreation administration, and sports management. Students complete their practicum course near the end of their degree and will begin their placement with a very strong background knowledge within their area. Students in full time placement will work 30-35 hours per week over 13 working weeks in either paid or unpaid practicum placements.

Continuously developing your product and service offering is essential to keeping pace with rapidly-shifting market demands. In this project, students working in cross-disciplinary teams will apply their business acumen and creativity to develop a new product/service or social venture recommendation that will appeal to your target customer/market. In the course of innovating, there are various stages an innovation project goes through from idea stage to commercialization. The deliverables for this project include: business idea submission, one interim ‘Think Tank’ presentation - An opportunity to gain feedback from your peers/instructor/partner company - and the final pitch presentation/strategy plan. The course project will mimic a strategic innovation business plan with key elements such as a business model canvas, market, organization, technology and implementation/commercialization.
