MacEwan Careers & Experience Research Project

Leadership and Engagement is a team that provides MacEwan students with cocurricular experiential learning opportunities. This includes but is not limited to campus and communities volunteer experiences and activities to develop career-ready leadership skills. Initiatives include the Emerging Leaders Certificate program, MacEwan Ambassador Program, Golden Key International Honour Society chapter, Co-curricular Record, First-Year Experience Mentorship Program, and the iVolunteer campaign.Students will complete a project for MacEwan’s Careers and Experience Office that explores experiences and perspectives among students who are participating or have participated in Leadership and Engagement programs and services. Ms. Dogbe leads these initiatives at MacEwan and is hoping to further understand how to best support MacEwan students, and their future career journeys and prospects, through volunteer and community engagement opportunities.Research questions: What are the strengths of the volunteering/community engagement opportunities currently offered? Can they be enhanced and, if so, how? What are the barriers and needs among MacEwan students with reference to participating in volunteering/community engagement opportunities? In what ways are students benefiting from participating in the volunteering/community engagement opportunities (i.e., have these experiences helped students navigate their career journey, how)? Research participants: MacEwan students who are or have been engaged in MacEwan’s Leadership and Engagement programs and services.

Level UP - Engage MacEwan Event Support

Positions available: 1We are hosting an event on May 6th from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm called Engage MacEwan which is a networking event for instructors and community partners. The event's focus will be to identify potential community/course matches for the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 semesters after learning about the best ways to collaborate. Instructors from across all programs and faculties will provide a brief overview of the type of community partnerships they are looking for followed by network sessions between community partners and instructors to discuss collaboration opportunities.We are looking for a student to support the logistics of the virtual platform, Symplicity, that the event will be hosted on. The student will be trained on the Symplicity platform by the Careers & Experience team. This will be a 2 week project, 40 hours each week from April 26th - May 7th, 2021. The student must be available to work on event day, May 6th from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. We are looking for a detail oriented team player who is a people person and enjoys working with technology! Professional, written, oral and virtual communication skills will be essential to this role. Duties may include, but are not limited to:Working with professors to input project descriptions into SymplicityAssist community partners in creating their Symplicity profile and boothProvide assistance to the Careers & Experience in hosting Symplicity training sessionsBeing available to answer e-mails related to Symplicity questionsMay include working the virtual help booth the day of the eventAttend virtual planning meets and take notesPrepare and share event debrief notes
