Researching ways to license patented green energy solution in the United States

We operate a green energy patented technology that takes fossil fuels out of cooling and heating buildings. This technology is strategically aligned with the movement towards green energy in commercial and residential spaces and as such, a wide market beyond our operational zone of Ontario has opened up. We want to be able to take our formula to other markets, without incurring the high cost of moving machinery there, which our clients would need to pay. This excess cost would be counterintuitive to our operations and goals, making our international expansion not as economically scalable. That being said, our team has identified that in order to get around this cost, we can up-skill, train and mobilize teams in regions closer to our potential U.S. customers, to which we can license our patented formula. These teams can be trained by one of our team members for a period of approximately 6 months, and can hit the ground running by sourcing machinery and infrastructure in their regions to complete the projects for our clients. That brings us to the central piece of this project with you: we need to know in what U.S states we could operate this model, taking into account regulatory, legal, costs and time. Our goal in this project is for students to help us identify growth opportunities in the United States, an overview of the players in the green space, particularly in deep energy retrofits and beneficial electrification, that we can collaborate with to offset the cost of servicing clients internationally. This is an opportunity to apply business theory and research a solution that is going to dominate the American energy sector in the years ahead, while collaborating with Geosource, a Canadian leader in the space. The primary focus for the students will be: to research the market capabilities and players in the space that we can up-skill, an analysis of the States that would be best to find partners in, as well as regulations and legal aspects to consider. Our goal at the end of this project collaboration experience is: to carve a path on how to license in the U.S. Final deliverables will include research, analysis and a final presentation to our company. Student's primary contact: (Darryl Chow, Director of Business Development)Secondary contact: (David Gordon, Director of IP & Technology)

Virtual Intern: Technical Blog Writing

At GeoSource, we contribute to the fight against climate change by providing renewable and sustainable heating and cooling to buildings through ground-source geothermal systems. Therefore, in order to continue reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector we need to continue growing our client base. This ultimately results in the replacement of conventional fossil fuel-driven and low efficiency electric heating and cooling systems with renewable, high efficiency geothermal systems. As industry leaders in this space, we believe that education and advocacy is paramount to driving the increased market share of geothermal heating and cooling energy systems. For this reason, we're looking for one virtual intern to write 4-6 technical, but creatively entertaining blog posts for our website to educate stakeholders of the unique benefits of geothermal heating and cooling systems. The focus of each blog post will be provided by our team, and the student will be tasked with researching and drafting the posts themselves. Tasks for this project may include (but are not limited to): Writing and researching 4-6 inspirational pieces to educate various stakeholder groups exploring topics such as:Integration with beneficial electrification concepts;Building sustainable/future ready communities; How building geothermal energy infrastructure assists in mitigation of climate change; How geothermal energy systems can positively contribute to/address regional low carbon/net zero building policy; andVarious other elements of geothermal energy systems.Suitable for students with an engineering/applied science/environmental studies background, with an appetite for creative writing; however, we will consider applicants from all backgrounds that are interested in applying.
