Project Goals: To produce six podcast episodes for the BetterLTC Caring with Confidence series to inform, educate, and inspire conversations related to growing older to optimize quality of life and quality of care. The podcast episodes will raise awareness of issues related to growing older through the integration of lived experience, health research, and practice into each episode.

BetterLTC - Communication and Website Development 2024

BetterLTC Research Assistant - Using Instagram as a knowledge mobilization tool

Project: The focus of the project is to co-create a marketing strategy for our Instagram posts to connect adults and persons caring with older adults. The information within the Instagram posts will provide micro-learning opportunities, promote self-care, and advocate for care practices that advance the quality of life for older adults.

BetterLTC Electronic Data Collection Form Pilot Project

The main goal for the project is to pilot a new electronic data collection form for the comprehensive geriatric assessment within a special care home in Warman, Saskatchewan. The project aims to assess the feasibility, usability, and effectiveness of the new form in collecting data for the assessment of older adults within the care home setting.This will involve several different steps for the team, including:- Collaborating with the special care home in Warman, Saskatchewan to introduce the new electronic data collection form.- Supporting approximately 100 participants in completing the assessment using the new form.- Collecting feedback from participants and healthcare professionals on the usability and effectiveness of the new form.- Analyzing the data collected through the new form to assess its feasibility and potential for implementation in other care home settings.

Encircling Care Summit Planning - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

At the end of this project, you will have co-developed and delivered a research, education, and recruitment summit for persons working or seeking to work in the healthcare industry caring with older adults. The summit is to be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan April 30, 2024.

BetterLTC Research Assistant - Using Instagram as a knowledge mobilization tool

Project: Our program of research is situated in older adults, long-term care, education, and practice. The focus of the project is using instagram as a tool for healthcare workers caring with older adults to connect, learn, and reflect on their practice. The project is situated within an interprofessional team, using a patient-oriented research approach. BetterLTC - Older Adult Services Environmental Scan

Project: Our work is situated in older adults, long-term care, education, and practice. We are currently involved in establishing the Nav-CARE program in Saskatchewan that requires an environmental scan of older adult services in Saskatoon, Warman, and the Qu'Appelle Valley. The focus is on supporting older adults (target population persons living with dementia or complex health conditions in community) and their carers to continue to grow older in their choice of place.

Research Assistant - Remembering When

Remembering When, an international program, proactively provides education opportunities for older adults on how to identify and eliminate fire and fall hazards in their home, how to prevent fires and falls and how to escape from a fire. The Saskatoon program also focuses on how to get up after a fall. The goal of the program is twofold: • help older adults eliminate fire and fall hazards, enabling them to age safely in their home of choice, and • connect them to helpful resources before they experience five or more fall incidents.In January 2017, the SFD started Remembering When in partnership with the Saskatoon Council on Aging (SCOA) to enhance their public education programming. Remembering When communicates primarily through group presentations, home visits and follow-up telephone calls. In addition to Remembering When’s 16 safety messages, the program uses guidelines provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada to teach people how to get up after a fall if they have not hurt themselves and how to help someone up who has not injured themselves (Canada, 2020). The goal of the project is to evaluate the implementation of a postcard related to fire and fall safety and medications related to falls. The postcard has been designed and will be piloted June 2021, with data collection beginning July 2021.2 students - working as a team and in some instances, individuallyThe research assistants will support the research initiatives under the guidance of research faculty. Areas of inquiry include: older adults living in community, healthcare, not-for-profit organization, and private business (pharmacy). We are currently involved in writing a research proposal for the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation Impact Grant call. The study will be a randomized control trial to test the integration of a navigator into the care team for persons living with dementia and their close ones in community. The project is situated within an interprofessional team, using a patient-oriented research approach.
