Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The main goal of this data science internship with Sofvie is to analyze and explore occupational health and safety data in order to gain insights that will help improve workplace safety and reduce the likelihood of accidents or injuries. The data science interns will be expected to develop data models, perform data cleaning and analysis, and create data visualizations that will help identify patterns and trends in the data. The ultimate outcome is to use these insights to inform data-driven decisions that can enhance workplace safety and protect employee health.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

To achieve the project goal, the data science interns will need to complete the following tasks:

  1. Collect and clean occupational health and safety data from various sources.
  2. Analyze the data using statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
  3. Develop predictive models using the data to forecast potential hazards and risks in the workplace.
  4. Create data visualizations to help communicate insights and findings to stakeholders.
  5. Collaborate with the data science team at Sofvie to share findings and recommendations, and to integrate insights into workplace safety protocols.
  6. Prepare a final report summarizing the data analysis, insights, and recommendations.

Throughout the project, the data science interns will be expected to communicate regularly with their primary supervisor at Sofvie and receive ongoing support and mentorship.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

To support students in completing this data science internship project, we will offer the following resources and support:

  1. Access to relevant data sources and documentation on occupational health and safety concepts.
  2. Guidance and mentorship from the data science team at Sofvie, including weekly virtual check-ins with a primary supervisor.
  3. Access to relevant tools and technologies, including cloud computing platforms, data visualization tools, and relevant programming languages and libraries.
  4. Regular feedback and review of the work in progress to ensure students stay on track with the project goals.
  5. The provision of a clear project scope, goals, and deliverables at the beginning of the internship.

We will also make sure that students have a clear understanding of our company's values and goals, and how their work fits into these. We will encourage open communication and collaboration, and strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages creativity and innovation.

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

To successfully complete this data science internship project, students should have the following skills and knowledge:

  1. Strong programming skills in Python, or another relevant programming language for data analysis and machine learning.
  2. Knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and data modeling techniques.
  3. Experience working with data cleaning and data manipulation tools such as pandas, numpy, and SQL.
  4. Proficiency in data visualization tools.
  5. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS would be beneficial.
  6. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.

Additionally, students should have a basic understanding of occupational health and safety concepts, and be willing to learn and work with data related to this field.
