Details

The ICRC/CCBI is seeking to develop a strategic marketing and communications plan that reflects our recent shift from public-facing outreach to a network-centered model. This transition comes in response to online targeting and harrassment, which have made traditional public marketing unsafe for our team and our community.

We are currently without a clear digital marketing strategy and need to find ways to reach new clients and strengthen internal engagement, without compromising the safety of our members, staff, or community. The goal of this project is to explore how we can communicate effectively not only within the 2SLGBTQ+ ecosystem but also with a potentially larger interested public who identifies as allies to the 2SLGBTQ+ communities through trauma-informed, and privacy-conscious strategies.

Interns will work to:

  • Understand the sensitivities and risks involved in marketing to marginalized communities;
  • Identify internal and external audience segments;
  • Assess appropriate and safe communication channels;
  • Propose a clear, phased marketing plan that supports growth, safety, and sustainability.

This project gives learners the opportunity to apply marketing and communications knowledge in a nonprofit, social economy context, while deepening their skills in ethical engagement, risk management, and equity-centered storytelling.

Deliverables

Learners will be expected to develop a strategic digital marketing plan that is aligned with CCBI’s mission and sensitive to community realities. Deliverables will include:

  • A stakeholder-informed marketing strategy document, including goals, key messages, audience segmentation, and proposed outreach tactics
  • A communications safety framework outlining best practices for content that is affirming, consent-based, and risk-aware (e.g., around outing, data privacy, or public tagging)
  • A channel analysis (e.g., social media, newsletters, private member portals) with recommendations for balancing public vs. internal communication
  • A short presentation to internal stakeholders summarizing the plan and its rationale
  • The final outputs will demonstrate the learners' ability to apply inclusive marketing practices in a community-focused, mission-driven organization.
