Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our company is developing a working prototype for a native iOS mobile application. The mobile application named "Let's Talk" is designed to facilitate one-on-one conversation among people interested in discussing topics with differing opinions and points of view. The goal of the mobile application is to promote and foster conversation on topics including politics, immigration, woman's rights, abortion, climate change, gun control, free speech, health insurance, vaccines, religious freedom and more.

We would like a group of students to complete the coding of our mobile application based on the non-working prototype (attached)

This will involve:

  • Knowlege of how to develop both the front end iOS mobile application design and back end iOS mobile application coding
  • Once approved by the client company, submission of the mobile application to the apple store for review and approval to publish
  • Roadmap for further iOS application functionality and application development for android mobile devices

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Students should complete the following list of activities:

  • Familiarize themselves with the Let's Talk non-working prototype and desired minimum viable product functionality
  • Develop a minimum viable iOS working prototype using front-end design and UI best practices and back-end iOS mobile application coding
  • Present interim and final design to the client company for guidance and approvals.
  • Conduct 15-20 user experience and user interface testing sessions of the working prototype for feedback and refinement of the mobile application.

Final deliverables should include the following:

  • Once approved by the client company, submission of the mobile application to the apple store for review and approval to publish
  • Roadmap for further iOS application functionality and application development for android mobile devices
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Current product features and functions and roadmap for future mobile application functionality
  • Personas of Let's Talk mobile application users
  • Input on choices, problems, or anything else the students might encounter
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students must have a working knowledge of the following:

  • Swift 3.0
  • Xcode IDE
  • Core Data framework skills
  • Able to manage iOS device memory management effectively
  • Understanding the controls, inputs, limitations, and restrictions of different iOS versions and how to submit the iOS application to the Apple Store for publication
  • Have a working knowledge of unit testing to test each feature
  • Up-to-date design philosophy standards
  • Human-computer interaction concepts
  • UX / UI design experience

Nice to haves for students include:

  • User testing strategies
