Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our organization is passionate about encouraging girls and youth in sport, particularly, to learn about and participate in synchronized skating; a sport that blends artistry and athleticism, in a team environment.

We would like to collaborate with students to create an awareness video, to assist in the Olympic Goal for Synchronized skating, by popularizing the sport and bringing more attention to its existence.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with the social cause, our mission and goals.
  • Recording and utilizing existing footage to create impactful videos for social media
  • Finding and applying suitable background music.
  • Adding text, transitions, and overlays to the video.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Presenting the video and making edits based on feedback.
  • Recommending ideas and editing tools for future awareness videos.
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of the social cause, our mission and goals
  • Development of an awareness video

Bonus steps would include:

  • Revising the video based on feedback
  • Recommending ideas and tools for future videos

Final deliverables should include

  • A finalized video.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our organization’s mission and goals
  • Our awareness campaigns
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

Students will work closely with the Executive Director and Social Media Manager who are both supervising and available for questions. There will also be occasional progress meetings where adjustments to the students' tasks and duties can be made if necessary. Students may be provided video content from our organization to cut down and edit.

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Video production

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.

OneTeamMVMT is a non-profit organization (NPO) that creates opportunities for youth development and lifelong engagement in sport, through opportunities which promote athleticism, artistry, and inclusivity – such as the team discipline of synchronized skating. Synchronized skating is a co-ed sport which is comprised of 90% females, and provides an outlet for individuals to stay engaged in sport for life. This sport plays an important role in keeping females engaged in healthy, active living, by providing access to a team activity that combines artistry and athleticism. Female-dominant sports are particularly in need of support; according to Canadian Women and Sport, 1-in-3 females leave sport by their late teens, compared to 1-in-10 males. According to CAAWS, if a girl isn’t participating in sport by the age of 10 there is only a 10% chance of them being physically active at age 25.
Our NPO successfully proliferates the sport of synchronized skating through our year-round initiatives.
