Life cycle assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental aspects and potential impacts throughout a product’s life (i.e. cradle to grave) from raw material acquisition through production, use and disposal. Environmental impacts considered include resource use, human health, and ecological consequences. Students develop LCA in line with the ISO14040/4 standard. Example products could include household appliances, furniture, vehicles, bicycles, electronic devices, buildings, and infrastructure.

The students are enrolled in a final year capstone project. The aim of the course is to give them the opportunity to use the theory and techniques they have learnt in their regular courses in a significant programming development. The project addresses the application of analytics and statistics in a real world situation and is a capstone project for final year Master students. Our students have extensive knowledge in data extraction and preprocessing, data wrangling and exploration, data visualization, machine learning, forecasting, multivariate analysis, quality control and experimental design. Computing skills include querying language (SQL), scripting language (R, Python) & statistical language (R, SAS).
