Financial Risk Analysis

As a growing company, we are interested in understanding the state of the market we are in, and our organization’s level of risk. In this project, students will assess our company’s risk by building a financial risk model to determine our best course of action. Students will perform a sensitivity analysis to help us eliminate some of the uncertainties we face and determine the reliability of risk estimates. This may involve:Using mathematical and statistical tools to analyze private and public data.Evaluating metrics associated with the risk level of our company such as volatility, correlations for returns, forward/futures contracts, cash flows, variance, and economic states.Building a financial risk model including sensitivity analysis to determine the reliability of the model’s findings.Creating a report to present the results and recommendations from various forms of analysis to be presented to the project manager.

Description:This project aims to investigate and document the challenges encountered by children with undiagnosed learning disabilities, with a particular focus on the importance of early diagnosis before they enter the school system. Many of these children, especially those living in poverty, face significant barriers to accessing timely assessment and support services. This research initiative seeks to illuminate the experiences of these children and their families, as well as the systemic obstacles hindering early diagnosis and intervention. Objectives:Research Design: Develop a comprehensive research plan outlining the methodology, data collection techniques, and ethical considerations for conducting the study.Literature Review: Conduct an in-depth review of existing literature, scholarly articles, and reports related to the challenges associated with undiagnosed learning disabilities in children, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and the impact of socioeconomic factors, including poverty.Data Collection: Implement data collection strategies, such as surveys, interviews, and focus groups, to gather insights from various stakeholders, including parents, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, and community organizations.Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze the collected data to identify common themes, challenges, and patterns related to the experiences of children with undiagnosed learning disabilities and their families, as well as the systemic barriers to early diagnosis and intervention.Report Compilation: Compile the research findings into a comprehensive report, highlighting key findings, recommendations, and implications for policy and practice.Awareness Campaign: Develop an awareness campaign to disseminate the research findings to relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare providers, educators, and community organizations. Indigenous Food Security

Since time immemorial, Indigenous peoples have had food sovereignty. That is, food that has sustained Indigenous people generations upon generations, since time immemorial. The sustenance and immensity of what was here upon Turtle Island was from one end of Turtle Island to the other in all four directions. However, sustainability has been eroded to such an extent through many interruptions in how Indigenous peoples cared for the lands and sustained growth of the Indigenous Nations. As a result, many Indigenous peoples have had to endure very unhealthy foods. The legacy of intergenerational trauma resulting from the Residential Schools has created a cycle of poverty, mental health issues and substance abuse that is particularly prevalent amongst the urban Aboriginal population of the DTES. Although it will take multiple generations of reconciliation for healing from this trauma to take place, the effects are exacerbated on the DTES by the lack of recreational opportunities available to the Aboriginal youth living there. Dismantling Racism

Racism occurs between individuals, on an interpersonal level, and is embedded in organizations and institutions through their policies, procedures and practices. In general, it may seem easier to recognize individual or interpersonal acts of racism: a slur made, a person ignored in a social or work setting, an act of violence. However, "individual" racism is not created in a vacuum but instead emerges from a society's foundational beliefs and "ways" of seeing/doing things, and is manifested in organizations, institutions, and systems (including education). Below are some useful definitions:To combat racism today, it is necessary to understand the history of the ideology of "race" in order to challenge whiteness as the foundation of racial categories and racism.Whiteness is multidimensional, complex, systemic and systematic:It is socially and politically constructed, and therefore a learned behavior. It does not just refer to skin colour but its ideology based on beliefs, values behaviors, habits and attitudes, which result in the unequal distribution of power and privilege based on skin colour (Frye, 1983; Kivel, 1996).It represents a position of power where the power holder defines the categories, which means that the power holder decides who is white and who is not (Frye, 1983).It is relational. "White" only exists in relation/opposition to other categories/locations in the racial hierarchy produced by whiteness. In defining "others," whiteness defines itself.Students will create a platform in which to dismantle systemic racism/privilege. This platform will consist of ways to begin the dismantlement of systemic racism in all institutions. It is used in corporations, education system, policing system, banking system etc. as to identify and be called on racism in all systems to create change and equality among all people.

Navigating the Justice Systems for Newcomers, African Youth. Gang Involvement

According to Statistics Canada, in 2011, there were 955,202 Canadians identified themselves as Blacks or African Canadians. Out of this number, 70,000 and 47,000 lived in British Columbia 1 and 30,335 Manitoba respectively.Visible minorities and Aboriginals in British Columbia: http://www.llbc.leg.bc.ca/public/pubdocs/bcdocs/444122/visible_minorities_ethnic_origins.pdfAcross Canada, racialized communities have the highest incarceration rates and this needs to change. In Manitoba, where The Hood Fam operates, it is well known that incarcerate more people per capita than any other province.Cycles of poverty experienced by racialized communities fuels misperceptions. Anyone is a few decisions away from poverty and incarceration. Disseminating positive outcomes and educating the workforce about how to collaborate with newcomers will be one way to help break this cycle and create positive change rather than continuing discrimination and perpetuation the allure of the choices that lead to incarcerations and criminal activity. As well, projects must be designed to create a knowledge campaign and toolkit to disperse within the community, the goal is to make it available to anyone across Canada. The goal is to create a system that builds up capacity within various communities so that there is a safe haven and understanding that propels alternative methods and is proactive for African newcomers.African Canadians were over-represented in the criminal justice noting that African Canadians make up only 3 per cent of the population but account for 10 per cent of the prison population. In the last decade, the number of black detainees in federal correctional facilities has grown by 71.1 per cent, it warned.African Canadian children are being taken into child welfare on “dubious” grounds. Forty-one per cent of children in Children’s Aid Society of Toronto’s care were black when only 8 percent of children are of African descent. This organization works to prevent Youth from Justice and Gang involvement through Education and tailoured support services in the Manitoba area. They will bring insight from their continued experience in this area centered in Manitoba and will consult along the way as to best practices. Their preventative model and current referrals will help with gettingb. Africa-Canadian Education FoundationThis organization will work quite closely on programs from the educational standpoint. Part of the larger picture that needs to be addressed is once we have African newcomers referred to us, we need to ensure that their skill set and training is ready to refer them to potential human resources contacts within our system. We are requiring criminal justice students law students to assist on this endeavour we will be working with member of the justice system such as police, courts, lawyers etc.
