Naval Architecture Virtual Project for Masters Students

As a response to the COVID-19 challenge, UBC Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) Program has adopted a new strategy for the NAME Internship/Project course. The NAME 592 course emphasizes the teamwork and management skills necessary for excellence in professional design practice. The “design or consulting firm", i.e. team of 1 to 4 students, supported by faculty members and an industry mentor, work on industry-directed projects. Emphasis is placed on disciplined adherence to professional design practices (including planning, scheduling, documentation, risk management, and economics) and a clear focus on the client’s needs, as well as solutions to technical issues.We are requesting projects that originate from an industrial need, and for which you are willing to act as a client for the student team. All students have undergraduate degrees with 2 years to 10+ years industry experience.Projects can commence at any time from May 13 - July 17 and end no later than September 8.

Virtual Internship (paid; full or part-time)An opportunity to bring in a Master's NAME student this summer to meet short term needs of your organization and contribute to development of a future engineer for Canada's marine industry. The full- or part-time, engineering intern will complete a specific project conducted virtually (i.e. off-site) for anywhere from 6-16 weeks. Internships can commence anytime from May through July; ending by Labour Day. Minimum 180 hours.Students can work on one or more projects during the internship. This virtual internship could also be an opportunity for your junior technical staff to develop their supervisory skills. Recruit from our Master of Engineering Leadership program (all students have 4 to 10+ years industry experience ranging from shipyards, mariners, project managers) or the Master of Engineering program (all have undergraduate engineering degrees plus 2 to 8+ years industry experience).
