Bio

I am a woman with a disability living in Toronto, Canada. For over 35 years, I have been a staunch advocate for the rights of people with disabilities around the world. For almost 8 years, I served as the coordinator of access services at a major Canadian university. During my tenure, I raised over $750,000 for services to students, staff, and faculty with disabilities. I also co-founded the Inter-University Disability Education Association (Ontario) and served as first Provincial Chairperson. I have published extensively including one book and numerous articles. I earned an MA in Education at U.C. Berkeley, and my Honours B.A. at York University. Some of the groups I've been involved are: The AODA Coalition, Task Force for Jewish Persons with Disabilities, Association for Higher Education and Disability, and The Coalition for Accessible Transit (Toronto). Currently, I'm involved with a coalition to raise the funds persons with disabilities receive each month.

Digital Content Creation

The World Health Org. has called the lack of access to healthcare for people with disabilities "a Global Crisis." ReadyBe was created by Ilanna S. Mandel, a long-time disability rights activist, speaker, and author. She created this app for people such as herself who face ongoing barriers and challenges trying to access mainstream healthcare. We would like students to help us with creating content that is aligned with our vision, mission, and sector. We will ensure the student has a clear understanding of what these elements are for our organization. Ultimately, you will be working on content creation:1. An online social media campaign2. Networking to support the Indiegogo campaign3. Networking with influencers in disability culture to feature Ilanna and her team on podcasts, webinars, and other media interviews. If you like the sound of our culture, and are ready to tackle this challenge with us, then we'd love to hear from you.

Seeking Student to Coordinate Fundraising & Marketing for Mobile Health App

ReadyBe is developing a ground-breaking new mHealth app to benefit persons with disabilities. This is a unique opportunity to be involved with a project which has the potential to transform the healthcare system as we know it. The app facilitates accessible, inclusive, and hospitable healthcare by enabling the user to create their personal 'accommodation profile' what they need specifically for an accessible healthcare visit or treatment.
