Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Brief Background on The Dinner Daily:

The Dinner Daily is an online meal planning membership business dedicated to simplifying dinner for busy families. Our unique approach incorporates grocery store sales data from across the country into personalized meal plans. This helps our members save money while enjoying healthy, homemade meals. Our target audience consists of busy working parents, primarily moms, who value affordability and nutritious food.

Business Objective of the Project:

Our primary goal is to streamline and automate the time-consuming process of collecting grocery store sales data. Currently, our staff manually gathers this information from various grocery store websites, which is then uploaded into our database. This data plays a crucial role in our menu generation algorithm, as it informs recipe selections based on available sale ingredients.

By automating this process, we aim to:

  • Significantly reduce labor and time investment.
  • Enhance the accuracy and timeliness of sales data.
  • Improve the efficiency of our menu generation algorithm.
  • Continue providing our members with cost-effective meal plans.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

We envision the following key deliverables for this project:

a. Technical Research: Conduct in-depth research to identify the technical capabilities required to automate the collection of grocery store sales data. Explore potential tools, technologies, and data services that can be leveraged.

b. Data Services Evaluation: Evaluate available data services for purchase, such as subscriptions for grocery store pricing information data feeds. Provide insights into the cost, reliability, and compatibility of these services with our needs.

c. Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation outlining the chosen approach, technical specifications, and step-by-step instructions for implementation.

d. Recommendations: Provide recommendations on the most cost-effective and efficient strategy to automate the process.

Ideally, and if time allows, we would also be interested in a prototype or proof of concept for the automated data collection process. This may involve developing scripts, APIs, or other technical solutions.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

While I may not have a day-to-day developer available, and am not techincal myself, I am committed to providing extensive support to ensure the success of learners in this project. Here's how I will support them:

  1. Access to Information: I will provide a detailed overview of our technical structure, including the existing systems and data flows relevant to the project. This information will serve as a foundation for learners to understand the context and requirements.
  2. Subject Matter Expertise: Although I may not possess technical expertise, I am well-versed in the business processes and objectives of The Dinner Daily. I will be readily available to answer questions, clarify requirements, and provide insights into the meal planning industry.
  3. Documentation: To facilitate the learning process, I will ensure that relevant documentation and resources are available to learners. This may include existing project documentation, business rules, and data dictionaries.

The project's challenge lies in learners becoming the subject matter experts themselves, and I am excited to support them on this journe
