Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The problem Elifa aims to solve is that people do not think about what will happen when they or a loved one dies. As a result, families face a number of challenges when a loved one dies, including

- Finding out whether end-of-life arrangements have been made.

- Conflicts arising from differing opinions about the deceased's wishes.

- Preserving the deceased's legacy, not only assets but also memories and life stories.

- Unrealised and inappropriate distribution of assets to loved ones.

- Emotional and financial hardship for survivors.

Elifa's plan is to solve this problem - through our secure digital vault where individuals can plan and protect their personal, financial, end-of-life and legacy plans. The platform facilitates sharing and meaningful conversations about death between family members, reducing the potential for conflict and providing peace of mind.

Project aim: To understand market trends and the impact of poor planning. We would like to work with students to conduct market research.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including

Researching our target market and market potential.

Researching the industry and competitive landscape.

Recommending strategies to improve our positioning, brand, products and services.

Recommending strategies to differentiate ourselves from our competitors.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Data collection and analysis:

  • You'll help gather data on the total addressable market (TAM), serviceable available market (SAM) and serviceable obtainable market (SOM) for end-of-life planning/death care/estate planning in the UK and South Africa.
  • Use a variety of sources including industry reports, government data and market research companies, but prioritise the most recent data (ideally 2023).
  • Analyse the data collected to identify the potential market size and growth opportunities for Elifa.
  • Present your findings in clear and concise reports with visualisations.

Research end-of-life planning trends:

  • Analyse UK and South African market data on wills, estate planning and end-of-life discussions.
  • Focus on statistics that highlight the low percentage of people currently planning for their end of life.
  • Research the consequences of neglecting end-of-life and estate planning, including the legal and emotional burden on families.
  • Conversely, explore positive stories and case studies that demonstrate the benefits of proactive planning.

By the end of the project, students should be able to demonstrate

  • Familiarity with our products and services
  • An understanding of our target market and market potential
  • Understand our industry and competitors
  • Identification of our company's competitive advantages

Final deliverables should include

A final report
