- What is the main goal for this project?

The project goal is to achieve a completed draft of a layout and design for a non-fiction book with text and photographs that will be approximately 100-120 pages in length to portray a biographical sketch of people. This requires book design skills and knowledge of photographic content and working closely with the author to create an eBook and paper copy book for Print on Demand.
- What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

The student will:
- create the entire book format
- choose suitable fonts
- create design layouts for the entire book including style for chapters and chapter titles
- produce a table of contents
- add footnotes
- embed photographs within the text pages, including bleeds
- design a cover
- create the title page and copyright page, front matter
- prepare samples of layouts for feedback and choice selection
- At the end of the project the student will have achieved an entire draft of a book design

- What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

The student will need to have graphic design skills and access to software for layout and design of books
An ideal candidate will have experience using key software tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, or QuarkXpress, or similar software
Soft skills like color theory knowledge and creativity, is needed
The student will need to understand and have experience creating symmetry, white space and consistent margins to make the design look stylish and professional
knowledge about audience appeal and marketing is an asset
Book cover design experience is essential
