Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Creating a marketing guidebook tailored to enhance the accrual of sexual and gender minority (SGM) cancer patients into clinical trials is not only a step towards inclusivity but also essential for achieving comprehensive research outcomes.

Clinical trials are the cornerstone of medical advancements, providing crucial data that guide the development of new treatments and interventions. However, the underrepresentation of SGM cancer patients in these trials limits the applicability and effectiveness of research findings across all patient demographics. To address this gap, our proposal aims to create a marketing guidebook designed explicitly for cancer clinical trial managers, focusing on strategies to increase the accrual of SGM cancer patients.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Objective

  • Primary Objective: Develop a comprehensive guidebook that outlines effective marketing strategies to recruit SGM cancer patients into clinical trials, ensuring their representation is reflective of the population.
  • Secondary Objectives:Enhance awareness among SGM communities about the availability and importance of participating in cancer clinical trials.
  • Build trust between clinical trial managers and SGM communities through transparent, inclusive, and respectful engagement practices.
  • Provide clinical trial managers with tools to assess and improve their recruitment strategies continually.

Scope

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct a thorough analysis of current challenges and barriers faced by SGM patients in participating in clinical trials. This will include surveys, interviews, and focus groups with SGM communities, clinical trial managers, and oncologists.
  • Content Development: Based on the research findings, the guidebook will cover topics such as effective communication strategies, cultural competence, patient outreach, digital marketing, and community engagement.
  • Design and Production: The guidebook will be designed for easy navigation, with clear headings, bullet points, and actionable checklists. It will also include case studies and testimonials to illustrate successful strategies.

Methodology

  1. Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with SGM cancer patients, advocacy groups, oncologists, and clinical trial managers to understand their perspectives and gather insights on effective recruitment strategies.
  2. Engage with marketing and advertising firms to get their suggestions.
  3. Best Practices Research: Review existing literature and case studies on successful patient recruitment strategies, with a focus on inclusivity and diversity.
  4. Guidebook Development: Compile the research findings and insights into a structured, easy-to-follow guidebook. Include practical steps, tips, and resources tailored to the needs of clinical trial managers aiming to recruit SGM cancer patients.
