Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

We want to better understand our target market and the overall market, so we can uniquely position ourselves. This will require conducting in-depth research on the stormwater management industry and understanding the competitive landscape.

We would like to collaborate with students to conduct market research with a focus on North American municipalities prioritising climate action e.g. they have a stormwater levy / are responding to water scarcity.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our company’s mission, products and services.
  • Researching our target market and market potential e.g. How many North American municipalities have a stormwater levy? Where are they and how much do they charge for impervious services? Do municipalities with a stormwater fee have a corresponding stormwater offset program in place? How does it work?
  • Researching the industry and competitive landscape.
  • Recommending strategies to improve our positioning, brand, products and services.

Bonus:

  • Business plan outlining market strategy development
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with our company’s products and services
  • Understanding of our target market and market potential
  • Understanding of our industry and competitors
  • Recommendation of strategies to improve our company’s services

Final deliverables should include:

  • A final report (including Market Overview, Market Size, Market Share, Market Segmentation, Growth Opportunities, Leading Market Players)
  • A presentation

How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our products and services
  • Our current understanding of the market
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Market research and competitive analysis
  • Business plan development and strategic planning.
  • Financial forecasting and projection analysis.
  • Market research and industry analysis.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Environmental sustainability and climate action knowledge.

Again, students can complete this project without all of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn as the project goes along.

About the company

RainGrid provides end-to-end stormwater management solutions for cities, developers, and property managers. RainGrid's climate adaptation PropTech - the Intelligent Rain Retention and Reuse (IR3) system improves flood and drought resilience in cities, prevents combined sewer overflows, and democratizes stormwater management.

Our team designs, installs, and maintains IR3 systems that virtually eliminates harmful runoff. Real-time property-level micro-climate data can be accessed remotely for automated asset management and improved decision making. Aggregated data can inform flood forecasting, early-warning systems, and disaster risk response. Ecosystem outcomes are verified and can be monetized. Data generated empowers credit trading in stormwater offsets, GHG, as well as ecosystem restoration credits. And, green infrastructure can be augmented with remote monitoring and maintenance.

RainGrid was recognized as the Global Model for Green Technology during COP28 and was selected as a World Economic Forum 2023 UpLink Innovator.
