Overview
Details

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites you to collaborate with our Design and Entrepreneurship courses in the BS of Engineering Innovation and Leadership. In these courses, junior-level learners are ready to apply their skills to real-world challenges. In this course, students engage in the human-centered design process, exploring from interactions with people to developing products that shape the future. They seek opportunities to build skills in engineering design, problem-solving, and leadership while addressing meaningful projects.

As an employer, your role is crucial in guiding and supporting learners through their project journey. You'll communicate regularly, provide necessary information, and offer constructive feedback to student groups collaborating on projects via the Riipen platform. Your virtual presence at the final presentation will ensure a comprehensive understanding of the student's achievements.

Deliverables

At the end of the collaboration, employers will receive a final report highlighting the main findings and recommendations proposed by the student teams. Additionally, employers will have the opportunity to attend the final presentation, where learners will showcase their project outcomes and address any questions or feedback from the employer's perspective.

Project Examples

We seek projects that challenge students to apply their engineering design skills to real-world problems, fostering creativity, innovation, and collaboration.

  1. Community Mobility Solutions: Partner with us to develop innovative solutions for improving transportation accessibility and efficiency within local communities.
  2. Sustainable Product Design: Collaborate with students to design eco-friendly products that address environmental challenges and promote sustainability.
  3. Healthcare Innovation: Engage in projects focused on designing healthcare solutions to enhance patient care, safety, and overall well-being.
  4. Tech Entrepreneurship: Explore opportunities to work on projects related to technology innovation, startups, and digital transformation initiatives.
  5. User-Centered Design: Contribute to projects centered on understanding user needs and preferences, creating user-friendly products and services.

Projects to Avoid:

Projects that solely involve routine tasks or do not provide meaningful challenges for students' skill development are not suitable for this collaboration. Projects that are solely mobile apps or computer software are also not suitable for this collaboration. Students must generate some sort of physical prototype.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Can you provide a brief overview of the project and its objectives?

How do you envision the collaboration between your organization and student teams in this project?
