What is the main goal for this project?

It’s important for us to have a better understanding of how our target audience perceives our brand and competitors. We want to develop clarity on our competitive advantages and optimize our marketing strategy.

As a novel product with little to no history of commercial use, we would like an overview of our competition. Avo is running a dried loose leaf product line and a cold brew line that it is aiming to mass produce. We would like to understand our competitive advantage to optimize our market strategy.

We hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of the competitors in our space and how we can differentiate ourselves through our product/service offering, and our messaging.

During the internship, students will assist the sales and marketing team and provide support throughout various stages of gathering intelligence, target market analysis, marketing strategies, and promotional activities.

We can suggest names of competitors to research. Internal company resources will be provided.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

The final deliverables will include:

  • An identification of our current competitors
  • An identification of potential future competitors (eg. a large company in a similar industry who may enter the space)
  • The creation of a matrix identifying features shared across the companies and those that are different.
  • A summary of 2-4 paragraphs describing our competitive advantages and disadvantages relative to the competition identified. This could be done in the form of a SWOT analysis.
  • Brief Market analysis of (canned health drinks/loose leaf and bagged tea).
  • Customer segmentation and target audience.
  • Researching consumer trends and opinions to inform marketing strategy.
  • Identifying market and consumer trends through data analysis.
  • Analyzing complex research and representing data through graphics.
  • Preparing marketing presentations and proposals
  • Designing proposals for business opportunities.
  • End-of-project notes. Notes should suggest the next steps on the project and list outstanding items for completion
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will have direct access to the President and the COO via text, email, telephone, and virtual meetings.

The success of this student and the work they are doing on this project are of the utmost importance to the company directors. For this to happen, fluid and frequent communication is anticipated and expected.
