Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Students will conduct a competitive analysis of different schools across Ontario to determine where eHacks' value proposition would generate the highest ROI.

Today, eHacks is based out of Western University. Western has a brilliant pool of students and an unparalleled focus on business-focused technical education, due to the unique partnerships between the Western Faculty of Engineering and the Ivey School of Business. We've benefitted greatly from this collaboration, since entrepreneurial minded students flock to Western and engage with eHacks' events (for the most part, our annual hackathons). However, there are now 4 annual events at Western that accomplish similar goals to eHacks.

If we were a typical business, we would compete and try to re-capture our lost market share. However, we're a non-profit. We are determined to relocate our operations to another school that needs it most, to help them build a strong entrepreneurial eco-system. The question is: which school?

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

- Identify competing business and engineering programs around the province of Ontario (both colleges and universities)

- Evaluate the quality and depth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem at each school.

- Estimate attendance for eHacks' events at each identified school

- Select 3 schools to investigate further, then create launch plans for eHacks at at least one of the institutions. Larger teams will create plans for 2 or 3 schools. Launch plans should include a detailed timeline of how we would ramp up operations, receive approval from relevant staff and faculty, and earn funding to finance events at that school through on-campus grants or external sources.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

We will grant students access to our Google Workspace environment, which contains all of our emails, documents, and decisions made over the least 3 years. Students will also have access to the work of previous Riipen students to help scope their internship deliverable.

We will meet with students at least 5 times before the project is complete (i.e. at least weekly, assuming this takes 5 weeks to complete. If the students are keen to finish faster, we will meet more frequently). We will meet entirely virtually.

About the company

Our mission is to provide interdisciplinary learning experiences that empower students to solve pressing social issues through technical innovation. eHacks competitions are a uniquely magical place. Students from various backgrounds attend cross-functional workshops, connect with corporate representatives from various high-growth firms, and work together to create technically interesting and financially feasible innovations that aspire to change our world for the better.

Over the past two years, eHacks has raised over $25,000 to host 300+ students from every faculty on campus. Regardless of our participants' backgrounds, everyone walks away from eHacks with new ideas, experiences, and skills that prepare them for the ever-changing workforce.
