The VSE Career Centre is a University of British Columbia (UBC) based centre, which takes a holistic approach as a career resource centre to support Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) students to think critically. Students are supported with their professional and personal development from self-discovery stage to by providing career coaching services and resources. Additionally, we work to build long-lasting relationships with employers, businesses and other key stakeholders to help BIE students become the top choice for recruiters in various industries.

Data Analytics: Database creation and SQL Integration

IntroductionThe VSE Career Centre is seeking students that are interested in developing and implementing a sustainable database in Microsoft SQL for easy data analysis using Python (or other analytics software). Students will also be responsible for creating thorough documentation on database maintenance and database utilization.Students would have the opportunity to· Familiarize themselves with the data analytics industry standard of Microsoft SQL· Research and propose optimal database maintenance practices, ensuring the sustainability of the database· Create thorough documentation and train others how to maximize the utility of the SQL database.· Offer insight into future digital needs of the VSE Career CentreWe’re looking for someone like you if:· You are passionate about data analysis and furthering your personal knowledge in this area· You are a critical thinker with an ability to analyze and design sustainable practices· You are hungry to sharpen your SQL and Excel skills· Your attention to detail and data management abilities are strong· You like working in a team environment and are receptive to feedback· You are patient and adaptable in teaching, able to guide others through more technical processes effectivelyQualifications:· Excellent writing and communications skills, particularly the ability to write clearly and professionally· Intermediate knowledge of Excel, SQL, and general database structure preferred· Intermediate knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Java, etc.) preferred· Excellent attention to detail and organizational skillsExcellent ability to simplify abstract concepts and interpersonal skills
