Help Build an Online Community

Students will be tasked with growing the online community of our company's flagship project "HAP". This project aims to generate new methods to create synthetic medicines via natural (non-GMO) plants. We want to create a community as a source for ideas and resources for creating these medicines. There will be pre-outlined roles in the community that users can play. For a full overview of our community model, visit the link on our website: https://hap.bio/hap-culture/. The student will be responsible for doing outreach and advertising to attract people who are interested in HAP's goals and can contribute as one of the roles outlined on the website. This includes creating visualizations that can be shared on social media to raise awareness and intrigue about the project.

Analyzing secondary plant metabolites using an HPLC instrument

Our company has recently acquired an HPLC (high performance liquid chromatograph) from Agilent Technologies. This device can separate and identify the various materials or compounds in a tissue sample from, say, an experimental plant (like a celery plant grown in the lab). We are looking for a student to help us continue to find out how different plants react to various synthetic chemicals. Our constantly expanding seed library aims to cover all of the common and readily available crop plant families, as well as less common ones to ensure the broadest coverage for available genes. The genes that allow plants to produce the hundreds of thousands of known secondary metabolites are spread out through many families and even species, so unlocking the full potential of HAP starts with a strong and diverse germplasm catalogue.

Generate Market Research on Pharmaceuticals and Medicine Accessibility

The student will be expected to generate detailed, high-quality, market research on the current state of the pharmaceutical industry. There will be a focus on orphan drugs, unaffordable medicines, and crucial currently inaccessible medicines. We are a startup aiming to create a new, low-cost complementary method to synthesize lifesaving medicines. The prospective student would be expected to provide market research on the pharmaceutical markets so that we can understand the needs of the markets and where to focus our efforts, as well as to use the market research in presentations and information for investors.

Learn how to operate an HPLC instrument - One of BioTech's Core Technologies

The main goal of the project is to calibrate an HPLC (high-pressure liquid chromatograph) device so that it becomes prepared for a 2-year long research project. "Calibration" is a term normally used in science to describe an experiment for which the expected results are known in advance. To clarify, the project we are offering here involves only the calibration - it does not include the two years of research that come after the calibration. Our company has recently acquired an HPLC (high performance liquid chromatograph) from Agilent Technologies. This device can separate and identify the various materials or compounds in a tissue sample from, say, an experimental plant (like a celery plant grown in the lab). We are looking for a student to help us with the setup and calibration of this device.Ultimately, the project goal is to find out how different plants react to various synthetic chemicals - but the first step to doing that is to calibrate the HPLC device.
