Solid State is building a solidarity economy in Surrey, BC—rooted in and led by racialized communities. As a cooperative of cooperatives, we are a mutually supportive network united by friendship, collective care, and mutual aid.

Founded in 2015 and launched in 2017, Solid State emerged in response to rising racial violence, xenophobia, and white nationalism in Surrey and beyond. Our mission is to challenge these harmful tides by uplifting new narratives and creating opportunities for racialized youth. We address barriers such as limited mobility, restricted access to resources, and the isolation that many racialized youth face in suburban areas.

Years of research and community consultation have brought us invaluable relationships—with supporters, advisors, partner organizations, participants, and their families—who continue to shape and strengthen this project. As we grow rapidly, we remain committed to learning, evolving, and expanding our impact together.

DDB Media is a youth-led multimedia cooperative dedicated to amplifying Black and BIPOC stories. Through our videography, photography, and motion graphics services, we capture and share the narratives that shape and impact our communities. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of creatives while building a supportive and collaborative creative community.
