CANASA Database Update Project

The main goal of this project is to reach out to contacts in the Canadian Security Association (CANASA) database who do not have an email address and determine if they are still active in the security industry. This will involve several different steps for the learners, including:- Researching the contacts in the database to determine if they are still active in the security industry.- Reaching out to contacts to obtain their email address and permission to continue communicating with them.- Working with internal resources to ensure the database is kept up-to-date.

Cybersecurity Data Collection Research Assistant

The main objective of the project, focusing on cybersecurity data collection and labeling for vulnerability management, is to enhance the understanding and management of cybersecurity vulnerabilities. This project aims to engage students in the crucial task of gathering, analyzing, and labeling data related to cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities.Problem to Solve:Students will be tasked with addressing the challenge of identifying and categorizing various types of cybersecurity vulnerabilities. This involves the collection of vast amounts of data from different sources, such as security logs, network traffic, and public vulnerability databases. The key challenge lies in accurately analyzing and interpreting this data to identify potential vulnerabilities.Expected Outcome:By the end of the project, students are expected to achieve the following outcomes:1. Comprehensive Data Collection: Students should be able to gather relevant cybersecurity data from multiple sources systematically. This includes understanding where to find data and how to extract it efficiently.2. Effective Data Labeling and Categorization: Students should develop skills to accurately label and categorize the collected data based on the type and severity of the vulnerabilities. Among these papers are studies detailing our lab’s findings from online interviews with voluntary participants.We would like to collaborate with students to support our interview process by assisting in data collection and verification of results. This will provide us with prepared datasets that are ready for further analysis.This will involve several different steps for the students, including:Familiarizing themselves with interview procedures and participating in training activities.Assisting researchers in contacting participants and setting up interviews.Recording, organizing, and storing results according to conventions.Verifying that data is recorded accurately.Cleaning data to ensure consistency and usability.Suggesting new research questions or modifications to improve the interview process.
