International Crime Data Collection and Analysis
Locate and analyze urban-level violent crime data across the globe Criminal victimization research is generally undermined by the limited availability and quality of crime data. This is particularly true in international comparative analyses. Major challenges include language ambiguity and legal difference between nations, quality of reporting and data capture rates (aka: data represents X% of total incidents), spatial and temporal inconsistencies, etc. Safe-esteem has developed several solutions and approaches to overcome these challenges, and the outcomes are already in use across our platforms. This project will directly contribute to a new, forthcoming global crime risk index. Students will have the unique opportunity to help shape the index content and understand how to identify and resolve some of the limitations of legacy risk measurement and communication methods.
