Virtual Internship: Computer Science, CMS for mobile app.
Kind Screen is looking for motivated computer science students to help us build the Content Management System (CMS) that we’ll use to manage the exercises that will be uploaded into our educational mobile app. This is a critical component of our app because it facilitates the continuous creation and revision of content. The main users of the CMS platform will be educators or psychologists who write the content, they are the writers. The secondary user of the CMS will be an approver (admin) of the content that is submitted. The team working on this project (CMS) will report to Kind Screen’s CTO and CEO. Our CTO has over 15 years of experience leading software engineering teams. Our CEO also has over 15 years of experience in business, media, and education. We would be excited to work with a team of students and also contribute to their learning experience! To maintain consistency between the current developments inside Kind Screen, the students will be limited to the following technology stack: React framework, ideally with Typescript, for the web UI. Node.js + Express for the backend. Google Cloud Firebase Firestore
Consumer Behavior and Market Validation Study
Working on social-emotional learning (SEL) for children is a preventative action, you work on SEL so that your child has the emotional intelligence to address life challenges in the future . So, the company is mainly working in a prevention field and it can be hard to get customers to use an app before they feel a pain. This is similar to fitness , it can be hard to get people to work on their fitness until they face a health issue. We need help optimizing the message we should use with our target customers, who tend to be 30 to 45 years old college-educated mothers. We are in a space where meditation apps such as Calm and Headspace were about 8 years ago. People were skeptical of the needs and benefits of mediation before it became mainstream. Or they were skeptical that an app was the appropriate tool to help them learn to meditate. Parents agree that SEL is important but it is challenging to get them to realize that the methodologies they are using now at home might not be as effective as they think. Parents tend to use direct instruction and be less intentional in teaching SE skills (this is the definition of listening, so now listen). They don't see teaching SE skills as teaching a child to code or to play an instrument. Today, parents pay for math or coding apps for kids because they think "I don't know how to code" but in the other hand, they might overestimate their ability to teach their kids to have self-control, self-esteem, integrity, etc. We are looking to gain a better understanding of our target market to ensure we are positioning ourselves in the right segment and creating the best marketing messages . From our customer interviews, the pains we may touch on our messaging could be: I worry about things I could have done better or haven’t done. Don’t know if what I am doing is working/am I missing anything. It’s hard to talk to my kids/I don’t know how to start some of the harder conversations. I don’t have all the answers, I need more help. To support this project the student team could focus on providing: A complete analysis of our target market, and the positioning of our brand . Investigate the competitive landscape and identify key messaging for promotion. Apply consumer behavior theories and principles to improve the market potential. Develop a pricing strategy based on industry research and customer surveys. We hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of our target market and how we can better satisfy their needs. We would like recommendations on how to improve our positioning, brand, and products to better suit the market.
Advertising & PR Campaign Plan
Current state: We have the first version of the app (iOS and Android) and have done several user tests. We want to continue doing BETA tests with our app from now until December 2019. And launch in Q1 2020. The app will be available in English and Spanish. The project: The market of Educational Apps is crowded, we need your help advising us how we can set ourselves apart! We'll launch in early 2020 and need to create a communication / PR / Advertising campaign that resonates with our customers. We'll probably target first-time millennial parents in the US to start . We might include educators who focus on social-emotional learning . Our startup is based in Boston, MA and our primary market for launching is the US. The secondary market is Latin America.
Go-To-Market Strategy for Educational App Focused on Helping Parents Teach "Life Skills" to Kids
Go-To-Market Strategy for Educational App. to be Used at Home by Adults and Children (ages 5-10 years old). Current state: We have the first version of the app (iOS and Android) and have done several user tests. We want to continue doing BETA tests with our app from now until November 2019. And launch by the end of the year. The app will be available in English and Spanish. The project: We are optimizing the design now, but plan to launch by the end of the year. Students would help us size the market and create a Go-To-Market strategy. The activities in this project would include: Size market opportunity. Create go-to-market strategy. Pricing strategy. Support activities to build the business plan for investors. Some thoughts on ways to acquire customers Through social media and email groups for Parents Communities (English & Spanish), doing viral campaigns with recommendation incentives. Content marketing focused on advice about media, parenting & education. Homeschooling and stay-at-home parents are likely early adopters. We’ll seek alliances with schools too. We would love to reach partnerships with media companies, such as Comcast (X1), COX, Netflix, Amazon, Apple, etc, to help their customers with high quality content discovery and engagement. The goal By the end of the project, we hope to have: A Go-To-Market strategy ready to be used when we launch the app in the US (High Priority). Also have determined a pricing strategy that would maximize customer acquisition and long term profitability. Have a business plan that can be shared with potential investors.
