Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

This project's objective is to create a centralized database for financing partners in the North American market for our venture firm. The database will be used to source financing opportunities for our growing portfolio of startup companies to accelerate their growth.


We would be looking for a compiled research list of companies with the following metrics, where possible:

  • Firm Name: The official name of the investment firm.
  • Investment Thesis: The firm’s fundamental beliefs, strategies, and guiding principles for investing.
  • Check Size: Typical investment range for initial and follow-on investments.
  • Type of Investment: Equity, debt, growth capital
  • Industries of Focus: Specific sectors or industries the firm prefers to invest in.
  • Location: The geographical location(s) of the firm's offices.
  • Co-Investors: Preferred or frequent co-investment partners.
  • Stage Preference: Seed, Early-stage (Series A, Series B), Growth stage
  • Investment Horizons: Expected time frame for investment return.
  • Fund Size: Size of the fund or funds managed by the firm.
  • Portfolio: Notable companies in their current investment portfolio.
  • Success Stories: Previous successful exits (IPOs or acquisitions).
  • Investment Criteria: Specific criteria or requirements for investment.
  • Average Time to Decision: Time taken from initial pitch to investment decision.
  • Term Sheets: Typical terms and conditions the firm offers.
  • Board Participation: Whether the firm typically takes a board seat.
  • Annual Investment Pace: Number of investments the firm makes per year.
  • Geographical Focus: Specific regions or countries the firm is interested in.
  • Exclusivity Requirements: If the firm requires exclusivity in certain cases.
  • Syndication Preferences: Preferences regarding syndicating deals with other investors.
  • Follow-on Strategy: Willingness to participate in follow-on investment rounds.
  • Capital Commitment: Percentage of committed capital that has been deployed.
  • ESG Criteria: Environmental, Social, and Governance criteria that influence investment decisions such as women-only, POC, etc.
  • Recent Activity: Details about recent deals, including dates, companies, and investment sizes.
  • Due Diligence Process: Outline the steps and typical duration of the due diligence process.


What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

The students will be engaged heavily on the research end, while also learning about the financing environment firsthand.


They will be using the following tools to achieve the results:

  • CBInsights
  • Crunchbase
  • Any other research databases that can be used to achieve the objective
How will you support learners in completing the project?

The students will have access to tools/technologies and receive access to our staff's time to ensure they are supported in their objective.

Our firm is a venture catalyst, where we work with founders in the sub $1M rev range (pre-seed/seed) to help them navigate growth to their first $10M, and scale up to $50M+.
