What is the main goal for this project?

Overview: 

More Than a Fad (MTAF) is a non-for-profit thrift store based in Edmonton, Alberta, raising funds for women in addiction recovery at Adeara. MTAF is largely volunteer-led and we are passionate about creating community, giving generously and educating about addiction recovery. As our reach continues to grow, so does our team, which is why we need you! 

 

The Event and Community Coordinator is responsible for researching and connecting with potential vendor markets and schools for work experience and various volunteer opportunities in Edmonton that More Than a Fad could partner with. This position requires efficient and strong communication, research, and interpersonal skills.  

 

This position involves collaborating with the Communication and Community Development Leads, Communication and Marketing Assistant and Social Media Assistant.  

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Role Description: 

Phase 1: 

  • Connect with the Community Develop Lead weekly  
  • Develop a work experience program to propose to schools for how students can get involved, outline benefits for schools and students to partner with MTAF and Adeara 
  • Research if permits are needed for mobile pop up 
  • Research markets and events that we can go to with pop up truck (ex. Year-end school events?) 
  • Create two documents with findings and completed work experience program
  • Find 2-3 possible events for our pop-up truck 
  • Work 10 hours per week for 8 weeks 

Phase 2: 

  • Find schools that are willing to partner with us for work experience or 

volunteer opportunities and present work experience program to. 

  • Develop and implement an onboarding process for new volunteers and work experience students 
  • Create a to do list and jobs for pop-up truck and events 
  • Find volunteers to help run pop-up truck events  
  • Oversee the curation of items for pop-ups 
  • Promote the event(s) on all social media platforms with the help of our communications & marketing team 
  • Report on the success and necessary changes for future events 
  • Work 10 hours per week for 8 weeks 


How will you support learners in completing the project?

The learners will receive support from the Community Development Lead and meet on a weekly basis to ensure they receive mentorship and support throughout the project. They will have access to data on platforms such as Sharepoint and email. This guidance will help students navigate the challenges of creating a work experience program, build connections with schools and local markets and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed.
