Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Beyond Paris, An Insider's Guide to Rural France, is a biographical, autobiographical guide book which has been published by an English speaker who spent 22 years renovating a castle in France. We wish it to become known to British print and radio media that it is enjoying consistently exceptional reviews. In as entertaining as it is informative and useful.

Beyond Paris is self published and cannot be presented to the press for reviewing however exposure of it would make interesting reading in a feature or news piece because

  • There is talk of France enabling non-Europeans to be residents in France
  • The Olympics are in Paris this Summer
  • There is a huge general interest in France which is the largest tourist destination in the world.
  • It has a hook with the Channel 4 programme Escape to the Chateau DIY, and is the only book to date published about the program.

This useful and entertaining guide has a great story to tell. We need students to create press releases for us. Students should be prepared to:

  • Help us refine our story to something compelling and news-worthy
  • Write up press releases around multiple news-worthy stories
  • Identify media outlets that are most beneficial to us/most likely to pick the story up
  • Send press releases and establish positive rapport with media contacts
  • Secure media exposure for our organization
  • Link Beyond Paris with a new sort of tour company which is being launched in Oxford called Oxford History Tours founded by the Author.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

The final deliverables should take the form of:

  • Press releases that are ready to be published
  • A list of media outlets that we can partner with along with contacts
  • Communication established with those media outlets and conversations underway promoting the press releases

Student’s will be supported with mentorship throughout the project, knowlege of content and creative and practical guidance.

Students should know about communications and media and be interested in developing their technique to work systematically, and develop their discernment and ability to recognise worthwhile leads and abandon fruitless ones.

Resources

  • We can provide any additional internal materials to ensure a complete understanding and smooth collaboration.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with the employer for mentorship throughout the project.

Content and graphics will be provided.

Writing will be reviews and we will meet for brainstorming and guidance.

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

Students should know about communications and media.

Student's can be creative and create attention grabbing graphics and/or a short video to accompany the press release.
