Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

We’d like students to help grasp the data online, create the database, and analyze our datasets to draw helpful insights in Chile in 1960.

  1. The largest earthquake sequence ever recorded, including several shocks above 7.0 and even touch the top of Mag9.5, occurred in Chile in 1960. Students need to collect the earthquake data as many as possible.
  2. Data analysis. (we offer the methods)
  3. Visualization.
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?
  • Web crawling from public sources, databases, data analysis, data visualization.
  • The visualization dynamically presents the spatial and temporal distribution of earthquakes.
  • Write a research paper.
  • Excel, Python are necessary. PowerBI and Tableau might be useful.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Working closely with the project contact who is available for any clarification on questions, as well as occasional project progress meetings.

Basic tutorial, related resources.

About the company

GU INSTITUTE OF EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION(GUIEP) is a non-profit organization focusing on earthquake prediction.
We are committed to overcoming the global problem of earthquake prediction in order to protect the safety of life and property. Earthquakes cause 35.8 billion USD in losses for the top 15 easy-shock countries per year. Earthquake prediction is one of the top ten scientific problems in the world. We can predict the strong earthquakes and strong aftershocks.
