Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Get Crafty! is a series of free weekly drop-in craft workshops that happen from September to April. Students from all three U of T campuses are invited to join our weekly sessions, with all tools and materials provided, free of charge. It is an opportunity to take a break, meet other students, connect with the facilitators, and try new crafts and art projects. The goal of Get Crafty! is to promote wellness, alleviate stress, make friends, learn through practice (and failures!) all while inviting creativity and play.

The main goal for this project is to create a suite of lesson plans and prototypes for each project that will act as a guide our student facilitators. Good quality documentary images will also be generated for use on social media.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Project deliverables:

  • Develop a series of arts-based workshops and robust lesson plans for each project which include: photographs, reference materials, tips, tools, materials, suggested adaptations for virtual should that become necessary (PDFs, Word documents, video tutorials)
  • Create project prototypes for each workshop
  • Take high quality photos of each project
  • Inventory craft tools and materials
  • Create a plan for virtual engagements such as Instagram reels that complements our drop-in sessions and invites students to engage in multiple ways

A suitable Get Crafty! project has the following criteria:

  • Beginner friendly, but engaging enough for advanced crafters
  • Useful for our target population which is post-secondary students
  • Sustainable: using recycled/repurposed materials when possible
  • Using easily accessible and inexpensive materials/tools
  • Doable by most within a 30 to 45 min timeframe (finishing is important!)
  • Possible to facilitate in-person or online
  • Fun and relaxing
  • Perfectly imperfect (not Martha Stewart)
How will you support learners in completing the project?
  • Regular meetings with supervisor over Microsoft Teams to map the project, discuss proposed projects, and track progress
  • We will work together to determine the number of lesson plans that can be completed within the placement timeframe
  • Provision of tools and materials for the production of craft projects
