acceptable use policy user registration software as a service (saas) operations research
Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our company operates a Software as a Service (SaaS) web application that is accessed daily by users. To safeguard our operations legally, we require every user to agree to our Terms of Service (ToS) and Privacy Policy (PP) before using our product. We are seeking to collaborate with students to evaluate our current product and its associated ToS to ensure they are comprehensive and up-to-date with the latest legal requirements, policy changes, and potential business threats.

This collaboration will include:

  • Conducting thorough research on our existing product and the ToS provided to our users.
  • Investigating recent laws and policies relevant to our industry and how they might impact our business.
  • Creating an updated version of our ToS & PP, explaining the rationale for changes and identifying any previously overlooked aspects.
  • Assessing and suggesting updates to our related legal documents, such as the Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy.
  • Evaluating our current user registration processes to ensure that terms are being effectively communicated.
  • Advising on necessary corporate insurance coverages to align with our business practices.
  • Develop a refund policy

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

At the conclusion of the project, students are expected to deliver a comprehensive final report, accompanied by any source materials such as background research and references. The report should clearly demonstrate:

  • A thorough understanding of our current product.
  • Knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations that apply to our business.
  • A newly formatted version of our Terms of Service (ToS) and Privacy Policy (PP).
  • A detailed list of changes implemented, along with the rationale for each modification.
  • Recommendations for future adjustments to our organization's insurance policies.
  • Suggestions for enhancing our registration process in relation to our ToS and PP.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

To support learners in successfully completing the project, we will provide a comprehensive package of resources and mentorship:

  1. Dedicated Mentorship: Learners will have access to a dedicated mentor with expertise in legal aspects of technology and data privacy. This mentor will offer guidance, feedback, and support throughout the project duration.
  2. Regular Check-ins: We will schedule weekly check-ins where learners can discuss their progress, address challenges, and receive immediate feedback from their mentor and project managers.
  3. Access to Internal Data and Documents: Learners will be given access to relevant internal data and historical documents that are crucial for understanding our current ToS and PP, as well as the rationale behind existing policies.
  4. Technical Support: IT support will be available to assist with any technical issues encountered during the project, ensuring that learners can focus on their tasks without disruption.
  5. Final Review Session: Before the submission of the final report, a review session will be held where learners can present their findings and recommendations to senior management. This will provide them with real-world experience in presenting to stakeholders and receiving constructive feedback.

Through these support mechanisms, we aim to provide learners with a robust educational experience that not only contributes to their professional growth but also ensures the success of the project.

About the company

Executive Summary:
Agora Tutoring is an online marketplace akin to Kijiji, equipped with a map function similar to Uber, specializing in connecting students with local tutors for in-person educational sessions.

Company Overview:
Agora Tutoring is an online dedicated platform that connects students with local tutors for in-person educational sessions. By focusing exclusively on face-to-face interactions, Agora Tutoring aims to foster a more personalized and effective learning experience. The platform serves as a bridge between students seeking tailored educational support and independent tutors looking for meaningful teaching opportunities in their local areas.

Services:
Agora Tutoring provides a user-friendly web platform where students can search for and connect with tutors across a variety of subjects and educational levels. The service is designed to facilitate in-person tutoring engagements, enabling direct interaction and hands-on learning that virtual platforms cannot replicate.

Business Model:
Agora operates on a subscription-based model where users pay a monthly fee to access the platform and connect with tutors. Tutors, as independent contractors, set their own rates and schedules by connecting through Agora Tutoring. This model ensures a steady revenue stream for the platform while also providing tutors with a consistent flow of potential students.

Target Market:
The platform primarily targets students at all academic levels who prefer or require in-person tutoring to achieve their educational goals. This includes K-12 students, college students, and adult learners seeking professional development or personal enrichment in specific subjects. Parents looking for reliable and accessible tutors for their children are also a key demographic.

Strategic Goals:
Agora Tutoring aims to become the leading provider of in-person tutoring services within local communities. Strategic objectives include expanding its user base, increasing the number of tutors on the platform, and enhancing the overall user experience with features that make scheduling and session management more efficient for both students and tutors.

Competitive Advantage:
Agora Tutoring’s commitment to exclusively in-person tutoring sessions sets it apart in an era where virtual platforms are prevalent. This focus on local, face-to-face interactions not only improves learning outcomes but also builds a sense of community and trust among users. Additionally, the subscription model offers users unlimited access to potential tutoring, providing flexibility and value that single-session fees cannot match.
