Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Our non-profit association is looking for support with a website audit and redesign. The audit will include analysis of the user interface (UI), user experience (UX) and basic functionality of our site including navigation. This will inform the development of a redesign prototype(s) and eventually an improved website that better meets the needs of our target audiences.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

To achieve the project goal, the student will

  • conduct background research on the mission, goals and work of the Pender Islands Conservancy Association, a conservation-focused non-profit in a small island community.
  • familiarize themselves with capabilities and limitations of the Conservancy’s current website builder (Wix).
  • evaluate the Conservancy’s current website against the Conservancy Board’s stated goals and website design best practices to determine strengths and weaknesses in UI and UX.
  • familiarize themselves with the demographics, interests and goals of the various target audiences the Pender Conservancy seeks to engage with through their website, create scenarios and conduct small scale user testing on current site.
  • use the results of the audit and user testing to design and build inside a design tool (e.g., Figma) several screens for a redesigned prototype of the Conservancy website.
  • present results of the website audit and proposed redesign prototypes to Conservancy board and executive director.

Bonus steps would include:

  • conducting user testing on the prototypes to ensure ease of use and collect user feedback.
  • redesign a few pages of the website.

Final deliverables for this project will be:

  1. A report on the findings of the website audit
  2. Prototype screens for website redesign
  3. A presentation on audit results and prototypes

How will you support learners in completing the project?

  • a walk through / tutorial of our current website
  • a list of users willing to participate in UI and UX testing

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students should have knowledge of and experience with:

  • Website design and UI and UX design
  • Collaborative design tools such as Figma (an asset)
  • User testing techniques (an asset)
